It was the typical Chimera boot loader for my setup. I did that for simplicity sake... as I will have to re-do the install all over again once my new SSD comes in. Since I was using a temporary 80gb SATA HDD, I didn't want to have to deal with the quirks with Clover. I just wanted to do a quick-n-dirty install to figure out the Thunderbolt compatibility.

I intend on using Clover for my "final" build.

Anyway... been working on the Thunderbolt issue with some other not-to-be-named Mac communities on the web. If something pops up I'll find a way to report back.

I was able to do the install flawlessly with clover including the rescue partition.. no matter what I do I can't get it to boot even in safe mode (can boot safe mode with chamelion).. I still need to install the nvidia drivers :(

what surprise me I cant even boot (clover) when I have moved all the graphics files.. (chameleon wont boot without safe mode).. it would be nice for hd4600 to work... the gtx770 is nice too bad its not supported by the native apple drivers (probably should have grabbed a 760)..

what version of fake smc are you using? (im also getting alot of errors that I know are produced by it).. I haven't set up ethernet yet but am I correct its the appleintel1000e.kext ? Its been slow as I only have a little time each day to play with the box..

I installed it with clover~ basically, you just need to follow this:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...-how-install-os-x-mavericks-using-clover.html

I installed a win8 first (GPT and left a 400mb EFI partition)

After installed the OSX, when you try to copy the clover files from flash disk's EFI partition to your local disk's EFI partition (Or just install a new clover bootloader using the ****.pkg)

DO remember to copy the existing windows loader files in your local disk's EFI partition!!!!(it's like a folder named Windows)

After successfully copied(or installed) a clover, DO remember to restore the windows loader files(Just copy back the folder to the its original place):):)

i think i will try this motherboard soon

Hi all;

I'm a tonymac noob - but I've hackintoshed back in the day this was kind of easy to to on netbooks.

I'm building a hackintosh mac pro and am using:

- Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 TH
- Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD
- EVGA GTX 760 (one for now)
- Intel 4790

I was reading through this thread as I did my install. Like another user, I had to boot unibeast with safe mode. I don't need the internal graphics, so for now, I'll just disable like another post recommended.

I'll try other suggestions on this thread as needed. Thanks for noting potential issues ahead of time, and post back with how things are working for my build.

So far, so good!

Great to hear!

I came from using a Mac Pro 5,1 (Mid-2010) and decided to go Hackintosh this year because I couldn't safely use a power hungry GPU like GTX 780 in the official MP5,1 system, plus it was showing its age with only having SATA2 ports and a very old CPU.

My experience so far (after getting over installation issues) has been very good. I've cloned my boot drive, so I'm all set for testing any future OS updates.

I've been running this board for a few days now, but I just cannot seem to get the graphics to load without thunderbolt being completely disabled. Am I missing something really obvious here? I've changed the security settings to "Legacy" and tried pretty much every other combination of settings within the thunderbolt section of the bios, but no dice.

here's the current config:

32gb ram-- i tried taking all out but one stick (8gb) that didn't help
msi geforce gtx 780
pcie firewire 400/800 card
adata 480gb ssd

everything seems to work completely fine without thunderbolt enabled, but when it is on the boot always stalls after "NVDAN[...] Loaded and Registered" then bluetooth info trickles in, and usb plugging and unplugging are detected, but the desktop never comes up.

I've got the rest of the settings as generally needed for UEFI...

oh, and I also tried this with a GeForce GT120 with the same results.

Yip, I have the same board, and it seems the same issue, also works well with a GTX670, as long as thunderbolt is disabled.
Which leave me feeling optimistic, as I am sure its probably something easy to fix, maybe even in osx 10.10
