...you say default do you mean Disabled?...
Yes.

Also check to see if your memory is on the Gigabyte Z87X-OC's memory verified list - see Gigabyte's website page for the motherboard and pick Downloads tab.

I checked the list and the exact number is not on it. I find this annoying since I spec'd out everything I ordered from the January Buyers Guide for the MacPro. :banghead:

To verify I have: CML16GX3M2A1600C10
http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-z87x-oc.pdf

Is this the cause of my issue?

Could be the memory or the PSU, if it's a not "Haswell ready" PSU. The tonymacx86 Buyer's Guide memory should work fine. Do you have 2 or 4 sticks of memory? if 4 sticks of memory, remove 2 appropriate sticks and run for a while.

Additionally, Gigabyte is slowly releasing BIOS updates. One other Gigabyte owner claims the new BIOS for his motherboard solved his "Haswell Freeze" problem. So, be on the look out for a BIOS update.

It's been a real PITA with these Z87 motherboard freezes. Hopefully, the BIOS updates will solve the problem. If not, then we'll just have to keep trying things until the freezes stop.

Currently only using 2 sticks. I'll keep on the lookout for the BIOS update and post any success. Thanks for all the help!

EDIT:
F8 added a bit of stability. I was able to run overnight without freeze for the first time. However now I realize that whenever I have the application Adium running I can expect a freeze within an hour.
Since this is off topic I posted it here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/131224-issue-adium.html#post801975

I know there's been lots of talk about these mystery Haswell freezes, and I used to get lots of them.

I recently removed the dedicated graphics card I had (Sapphire R9-270X) and am using only the onboard Intel graphics to run two monitors.

I'm going on four days without any freezes. I've been watching videos, playing games, and using Flash everywhere on different browsers. I'm using the F6 BIOS still, and it seems to have solved the problem.

I really wanted to use the Sapphire graphics, but so far the onboard graphics is keeping up just fine.

Hi there!

I too suffer from these dammned random Haswell freezes. After I replaced everything except cpu and case (thanks to Amazons really great costumer support!) im shure its either software (some real Macs with Mavericks are freezeng too) or a serious bug in Haswell (but why is it running stable with WinDOS?). I think i have pinned it down to discrete Gfx-Card drivers. The newest ones from Nvidia (the 331.01.01f04 from last week) are running pretty stable (no freeze yet :).

Maybe we see an improvement with Apples new drivers in 10.9.3.

So far i keep my fingers crossed!

This thread is about the Z87X-OC and not the Z87N-Wifi, although the freezes are apparent over the GA boards you have provided no evidence that it is the discrete drivers causing the issues. I'm using the native OS X drivers and I am not seeing any freezes. I spend much more time reading than I do posting and from what I have read it is still a memory problem. On the GA forums it is claimed that users want to use 4 sticks of ram and for Gigabyte to provide this for them. I have been successful with using 4 sticks of ram in default profile using the iMac 14,2 system definition. BIOS updates have provided much more stability documented in many posts and users are still testing Beta's resulting in greater stability. Logs don't provide any information with the freezing issue when it was happening to myself before the new year within OS X.

+1 WildWillow. I concur. Make sure the memory is on Gigabyte's Memory verified list (your Gigabyte's motherboard model web page, Downloads tab). Additonally, make sure your PSU is rated "Haswell Ready."

Hi everybody, I am new on this forums and I got interested on wildwillow's build. I am looking forward build a strong 3D modeling/Gaming/Deving build with OS X/W8.1/Arch. I made my own researches and ended with this build:

Hackintosh-budget.png

The only thing I am not sure is what RAM purchase. For my purposes I need 16GB+ RAM with expandable options in sight. I mean 2x8GB dual now + 2x8GB in a few years. If possible I want a OCeable RAM just in case I need it.

Any thoughts on the build? Any idea of what RAM should I purchase?

Thanks :)

Hi iGoonie,

Welcome to the tonymax86 forums.

Your build is looking great and thoughts on the Ram I would sincerely consider checking out the compatible Memory list here Memory Support List for the Z87X-OC motherboard from Gigabyte's website.
There is a wide variety to choose from including 8GB modules that you require.
