Article: Building a CustoMac: Buyer's Guide October 2013

Hi guys, thanks for all the effort put into this list!

I'm about to build my first customac, and just wanted to be sure: If I buy the CustoMac Budget ATX list, will it be able to boot (and install, etc) normally from my Snow Leopard dvd?
Thanks in advance!

You cannot run Snow Leopard permanently on Haswell hardware as the kernel does not support newer hardware. You can use iBoot Haswell with Snow Leopard (see downloads) in order to get to the App store and buy/ download either (after purchase) Mountain Lion or (for free) Mavericks that will run on your hardware.

This video guide was created last year, showing the procedure for Ivy Bridge hardware. I hope it gives you a greater understanding of the process from Snow Leopard to Mavericks on your hardware.

/*Hopefully this doesn't seem unrelated/*
I have a fully functional PowerMac G4, (Not with me as I post so I don't have specs on hand)
That I would like to custom fit with current hardware into the original casing utilizing as many of the natural assembly points as possible.
My question is: Has anyone ever done anything like this or retrofitted newer parts into an older casing? If so, what was the build, and can your provide docs, and sites for detail?

Thanks

Regarding Socket 2011: "These rigs are the most powerful single CPU systems you can build. Warning: Power Management is NOT working, and may not ever work. This means no speedstep, sleep, etc..."

I don't understand this. I was looking at the new MacPro specs and it says they're using the E5 type Xeons. Isn't that socket 2011? Doesn't that mean Mavericks will effectively support the E5 2690 in a GA-X79S-UP5? I'm not too bothered about sleep, but what about speedstep? If it's rated at 2.9 - 3.8 GHz, does that mean I'll always be stuck at 2.9, even when I'm rendering in my 3D animation program (LightWave)? Does that mean I'll have to boot into Windows to get full speed? What if I over clock it via the Bios? Can one do that instead? That'd be fine by me.

Thanks.

I've build the CustoMac Budget mATX June 2013 but I used the intel core i5 3350P (by error at buying it) instead of one on the list i5-3570K, now when I boot up I need to use "-x" flag for a properly boot. How can I fixed???

My build:
Motherboard -> ga-b75-d3p
CPU-> i5 3350p
Graphics -> Nvidia GT 610
Storage -> 1TB HD x2

Sorry for my spelling

You should address you question in the correct part of the forum. You should look to post in Installation > and the desktop support for the version of OS X you are trying to run.
Detail what you have tried. Make sure that you are using either a DVI-D or HDMI cable.

Hi, Is this guide good for Mavericks or should I wait for November 2013 guide? (I'm eying to get a Customac Pro hardware very soon).

Do you NEED a graphics card with the Gigabyte motherboards? Are the display drivers in the motherboard supported in Mavericks?
