Hi meminiau,
Yes you can download it from the Mac App store but don't run it. Create your UniBeast 3.0 Mavericks installer and follow the guide that I wrote. Remember not to partition/format your installation drive. This will work as a updated installation. If you just run the Install.App you will boot straight back into 10.8.5

No you won't lose your dual booting. My suggestion would be, shut down your system and disconnect your Windows 8 SSD. Then install Mavericks over your Mountain SSD. Once happy with your updated installation, plug in your Windows 8 SSD and you should be good to dual boot.

Thanks for your help mate!

A little off topic, but do you honestly see any real benefit in going up to Mavericks? I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Mavericks and for me I don't see any real difference. Maybe I am not using some features that I don't know about :problem:

Biggest new features for me are tabs in Finder (finally) and the new way of working with multiple screens. In addition to that, it seems to use less cpu power (my MacBook Air runs ~30 minutes longer now).

Hi WW,
First of all thanks a mil for a detailed step by step guide for HDMI.
I will try it and revert.

Today I got a wired problem related to graphics.
I hit a road block like in BIOS I did not change the internal graphics to any.
I mean Init Display First = IGFX.
I used my 9800GT in PCI 1 slot.
Problem is if I do not change Init Display First = PCI I do not see my moniter is getting signal.
If I change it to PCI then I can not see BIOS see the 10.9 screen directly.
So as my machine has 3 OSs I can not choose other OS (as till Cimera screen the moniter has no signal).
Can you help ?:cry: I mean should I use IGFX or PCI in BIOS? What you did as we have the same mobo?
Did you connect GPU card in PCI 1 slot?

For help I used HDMI to DVI cable when I was using internnal graphics.
For 9800GT I used DVI to DVI cable to connect my Dell U2412M moniter.

--Thanks & regards :angel:

Hi NicoX,

To use your integrated graphics and discrete card together you must have Init Display First set to IGFX. To enable the integrated Intel HD4600. You need to add IGPEnabler=Yes to your Org.Chameleoon.Boot.Plist shown in Post #1. This will allow you to use your HD4600 during the BIOS and at the Chimera boot screen where you can select your other OS's. My GT640 is slot 1.

This is entirely up to you. I am really enjoying OS X Mavericks. Yes in appearance it is very similar to Mountain Lion, but the main bonus for me is the Full screen Applications with more than one Monitor. Giving me the ability to watch a movie in full screen whilst working on the other. Not possible in Mountain Lion. Tags in finder I find very helpful. I don't use airplay but it has improved immensely in Mavericks.

Like I said it is up to you. If you don't think that you will use any of the new features then stay with Mountain Lion. You can try a google search for whats new. I read there were 200+ changes.

Great thread and guide!

I searched through this thread (lots of great info here), all over the net, and this forum. However, I seem to be the only goofball with this issue.

GA-Z87X-OC Gigabyte
i5-4670K
Using Internal Graphics
SSD HD

As I follow these instructions everything goes wonderful except for the below:

After I enter Mavericks and complete the set up I get stuck at the "Setting Up Your Mac" screen shown below:
71646d1383022590-install-stuck-setting-up-your-mac-screen-photo-1.jpg

Forced to press and hold the power button to reboot I am able to enter Mavericks, however once I'm in I get the
"The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" error shown below.

This error points at my pen drive AND the SSD (where Mavericks is installed) rendering me helpless to do anything and not able to run Multibeast:
71647d1383022728-install-stuck-setting-up-your-mac-screen-photo-2.jpg

The only things I can think of that might be off is that my SSD sata is plugged into the #5 plug and my board doesn't allow me to disable VT-d as the home page guide suggests.

Any insite on how to overcome this issue would be phenomenal

Hi Buckchey,

The first thing I would do is move your Mavericks Installation SSD to the Sata0 port. I assume that you have formatted the SSD as per the 10.9 Installation guide. When Mavericks completes installation and restarts automatically, at the Chimera boot screen type -x (safe mode).

You don't need to worry about disabling Vt-d in the BIOS as you have a "K" version Intel processor.

I understand WW but :oops:,
I have some clues too.
Explaining ...
:arrow: I have a single HDD where 10.8 & 10.9 installed in different partitions.
:arrow: I first installed 10.9 then 10.8.
:arrow: After 10.8 installation I had to add IGPEnabler=Yes as Post #1 in Org.Chameleoon.Boot.Plist.
:arrow: But in 10.9 in the plist it was there so I did not change any.
:idea: I mean in Org.Chameleoon.Boot.Plist I found key = IGPEnabler and value =Yes :silent:
So.. I thought it is good to go.:ugeek:
:arrow: Before all installation in BIOS I set Init Display First = IGFX (actually I did absolutely same as you said). Just one exception I enabled Ultrafast Boot = Enabled (in BIOS) not sure it this is the cause :crazy:
:arrow: Last point I am connecting monitor through GPU DVI port to monitor DVI port.
Are you connecting through mobo HDMI port to monitor DVI/HDMI/VGA ?
Any guess where am I missing :beachball:

------------------------------------------------------------------ in 10.9 the plist is as:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>IGPEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string></string>
<key>Legacy Logo</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>2</string>
<key>GenerateCStates</key>

<string>Yes</string>
<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>"1920x1080x32"</string>
</dict>
</plist>

------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note every thing goes fine when I am connecting my internal graphics to monitor. I face problem only when I connect 9800GT's DVI port to moniter.....:banghead:

Hi Wildwillow,

Thanks so much for the reply and suggestion. I should have remembered that the K version processor doesn't matter in disabling Vt-d as you stated in your guide.

Last Night I tried the following:

  • Plugged my SSD into the Sata0 port.
  • Followed 10.9 Installation guide for formatting SSD.
  • At Chimera I entered -x as suggested.

Still stops me at "Setting Up Your Mac...", as I reboot (the only way to get out of it) and enter Mavericks it did the same thing, "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer".

I then decided to start from scratch and I followed your guide for setting up the bios since we have the same MB. Same result.

I even tried plugging the SSD in the Sata1 port just for fun. Same result. Thinking about doing a memtest just to try and eliminate other possibilities.

This is the wierdest thing, I can't find anybody in the hack communities with this same issue, any other ideas how to overcome this?

WildWillow, my hack has been running good since you help me with it, but the bluetooth stopped working a week or so ago, so i time-machined back to a week early and bluetooth started again, but now have a issue of its using all my wired ram, using 24gb of it. i tried a different time machine and same thing, when it boots up its using all of my ram with no programs running. I went to processes and the most any one is using is 500mb. Any ideas, most programs wont open and say not enough memory? help please.

Update, just did a fresh install of mountain lion and same thing 23.56 gb of ram used WIRED.
Also tired taking all the ram out and triing just 2 and then just 1 stick and same thing it would use about all of what was installed at the time.

Hi NicoX,

I am using a DVI-HDMI cable from my GT640 and DP from the motherboard. Try changing GraphicsEnabler=No to Yes in your Org.Chameleon.Boot.Plist.
