If I put the original applehda KExt back, shoud hdmi audio out work with passthrough, if so could I re patch it to get my vt2021 functional and keep the passthrough?
I've tried a couple of other patched applehda Kexts and the passthrough seems not to be present. I.E. audio device selection in vlc doesn't show a passthrough in the list.

Thanks for getting me this far.

Yes. Use Audio ID: 1 (dsdt/HDEF/layout-id 0x01 0x00, 0x00, 0x00).
Gave that a go and there's no indication I have passthrough. I seem to remember ther being an additional output in the vlc audio devices list. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

What does your receiver display?
It shows the Dolby pro-logic as opposed to the Dolby digital.
There is no (encoded output) to chose from in the VLC audio devices menu which I seem to recall there being on my old Mac Pro and MacBook.

Use MediaInfo app and reply with audio format of source file.

Good morning, Toleda!

Just to let you know, since you tried so hard to help me to enable HDMI audio for my HD5450: i just solved it myself yesterday! :D That's surely a lesson about the value of persistance.

It was kind of a facepalm fix: i was trying to solve the black screen upon wake issue, and i have in my system an AppleHDA made by Mirone (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/to...md-hardware-ati-chipsets-nvidia/#entry1899684 - he's been also really awesome). When i restarted my system using PCIRootUID=0 and GraphicsEnabler=No, voilà: HDMI worked! Internal audio still doesn't (it's a Lion version HDA, and i'm on 10.8.3), but i'm pretty sure Mirone will help me to sort it out. I still have that DSDT i made, which previously brought HDMI audio to a recognized-but-oddly-not-working state (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=121017). I'm not sure which was the role of each of the fixes (AppleHDA, PCIRoot, GE=No, DSDT) but i do know i must have all of them for HDMI audio to work for me. So, perhaps, it's a solution you can try and recommend for other people here in the topic which the same card and issue.

All the best!

P.S.: Sleep and wake also are now working like a champ. The card, however, is reported in SysInfo as HD5000, and in IOReg as having a generic ATY framebuffer.

P.P.S.: I wonder if a similar solution (PCI Root, GE=No), wouldn't also be valid for my ION HDMI audio, which we also tried to enable here to no avail. However, i remember you saying it was outputting the wrong signal type in IOReg, so it might as well be an issue of another nature.
