Testing Thread: GeForce GTX 660

I got it to work, but it's a no go on 10.8.2. What setting should I have for 10.8.2? I can't run the Nvidia drivers on 10.8.2 cause it says it's already installed. Any advice for this?

Does the Geforce gtx 660 require mountain lion to run. I get a KP when I boot from a drive running Lion 10.7.5

There are no Lion drivers for the 660.....so yes, get Mountain Lion and suggest updating (without the 660) to 10.8.2 before then installing current drivers. Then plug your card in.

I'm trying to upgrade from my EVGA 9800GTX+ (GraphicsEnabler=Yes) to a Zotac GTX 660. Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard and an i7-2600K CPU running stock. ML 10.8.2.

I was getting a KP mentioning FakeSMC (as also referred to by 'minihack', above) so I adopted this process:

1 - Install Nvidia 10.8.2 drivers specific to the GTX 660 while running the 9800GTX+
2 - Erase FakeSMC from S/L/E
3 - Set GraphicsEnabler=No using TonyMac app
4 - Repair permissions using TonyMac app
5 - Power off
6 - Remove 9800GTX+ and install GTX 660
7 - Restart

Now I get this KP and am mystified as to what to do next - it refers to NullCPUPowerManagement.kext after the debugger is called. SysDef is MacPro 3,1 which has always worked in the past.

In case it's unclear, the subsequent text refers to com.apple.iokit.IOSerialFamily, com.apple.iokit.USBFamily and com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily.

Booting in safe and/or single user modes makes no difference.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try getting rid of that syncmate.kext (trash it, rebuild caches, fix permissions). See here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3834513?start=0&tstart=0

You need FakeSMC.kext to boot OSX
If you have a problem with NVclock.kext it is located INSIDE fakesmc

Funny. I didn't spot that. :)

I saw that it was mentioned that the old FakeSMC was removed but I had assumed that the new Fakesmc was then installed.... With no FakeSMC there will be a KP every time.

Thank you.

I reinstalled FakeSMC.kext.

I could not find com.eltima.Sync.kext anywhere. The only eltima file is eltima.Async.kext in S/L/E so I deleted it, emptied trash and restarted.

Still getting a kp but getting further this time - getting 'NVDAGK100HAL loaded and registered' (I understand this is the GTX 660 driver) and 'DSMOS .... SUCCESS' - see Attachment. However, right after that I get a 'FakeSMC: key not found ...." message and a freeze.

In single user, safe mode, I get as far as '...(AppleCPUPowerManagement) timed out'

Any ideas?

Are you using the latest version of fakeSMC? to be sure download the most recent multibeast and run it just to install FakeSMC.kext and the motherboard plugins for Fakesmc (don't select anything else).

Guys I read all threads. You are saying no mather what if you want to use GTX660 you must to have IGP on your board? am I right? is there a any chance to reach desktop without IGP If I install to latest Mountain Lion (include latest update build 12C60) with unibeast can reach to desktop without KP?
