Sound still isn't working for me. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Removed AppleHDA.kext and installed Voodoo 2.7.3 but nothing worked

Got sound working and I'm a happy man :D Saves me lotsa money buying a new card too

could you please explain what was the solution for you? (voodooHDA version and installation methods)

For some reason I can't get pass the "...still waiting for root device..." error. I followed your instruction and many other ways as well but none worked, still waiting for root device. I tried with Intel 160GB SSD but still the same error. I am using the on-board video but don't think that is the problem.
Any way I can get pass that?
Thanks,

Could you list your hardware and any boot flags that you started with?

If I remember correctly, what I did was first remove the AppleHDA.kext and then download the VoodooHDA 2.7.3 installer from here http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/

After that, do the normal installation of the 2.7.3. Then I installed the VIA2021.kext (included as attachment).

Once done, go to System Preference -> Sound -> Output -> Scroll down to Line-out (Green Rear) or Headphones (Green Front)

Voila. You got yourself a working Sound

MB= GA-Z77MX-D3H bios ver. F12
MEM=16GB
HD=1TB WD1001FALS I tried with Intel SSD as well
Graphics=on-board

Thanks.

Make sure you follow the Bios setting in this article: http://www.tonymacx86.com/123-how-upgrade-bios-uefi-gigabyte-s-6-series-motherboards.html
make sure you use your blue sata ports and not the white ones.
if it fales to boot try boot flags -v -s -x -f to see if you can boot.

The default bios setting on my ga-z77mx-d3h MB is pretty much the same as suggested for ML. The HD and DVD are all on the blue sata2 connector and white stata3 are empty.
My CPU is i5-3570k 3.4Ghz/6MB which is Ivy bridge if that makes any difference. This MB supposed to be the best choice for ML but I am still waiting for root device.... I purchased ML from Apple store and used unibeast to put it on a USB key, that is it. Anything else I have to add there? Thanks.

Attaching a screenshot.

UPDATE: Boots fine and installed ML, video works fine, sound works fine. Apparently Gigabyte Bios version F12 has a problem, F9 works fine. VoodooHDA 2.7.3 pkg did not work for me but strangely, VooDooHDA 2.7.3 included in Chimera worked fine and I have sound now.

Is anyone else getting kernel panics every other boot or so with this version of VoodooHDA?
