Asus Z690 ProArt Creator WiFi (Thunderbolt 4) + i7-12700K + AMD RX 6800 XT

** Calling all Asus Z790 ProArt Creator Owners Running Sonoma 14.4.x **

If you are willing to try an experiment that may enable Thunderbolt Local Node without modifying Thunderbolt firmware, please do this:
  • Disable existing Thunderbolt SSDT in config.plist
  • Install and enable attached Thunderbolt SSDT
  • Reboot (cold boot)
Then:
  • Run IORegistryExplorer
  • Scroll down (yes scroll -- do not use search bar) to RP05
  • Post screenshot

Hello @CaseySJ

I actually recently build up a novel Hack based on the Asus Z790 ProArt Creator mobo.
As I am still in the testing phase so I haven't yet updated my config signature (will do soon).
Such as @Inmike09 I have latest 2102 version BIOS, and MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (fresh install).

I just tested the provided SSDT and I think I am getting local node activation without any other patching whatsoever. Below are the requested snapshots.

Many thanks to you as well as to @Elias64Fr and @Inmike09 :)

I’ll do it after my two client sessions this afternoon

Bingo!! It’s working for you too. Thanks a lot for trying the experiment.

Does sleep work properly? And hot plug?

Does sleep work properly? And hot plug?

In a nutshell: yes and yes :)
just tried hot-plugging with an external SSD in a TB enclosure on one of the TB port on the motherboard.
Also, my ThinkVision screen is plugged through a USBC connection on the OWC dock station that is using the second TB port on the motherboard. Screen wakes up after sleep, no problem!
Many thanks @CaseySJ, always a pleasure to follow your threads on this forum :)

Okay, on my ProArt z790 (BIOS 1801) Sonoma 14.3, OC 0.9.9:

TB bus is activated. Hot-swapping USB4 drives back-n-forth between the two ports works great. Sleep still functions. I had to borrow a TB device (a BM Ultrastudio 3G), and it functions via hot-swap MOST of the time, meaning, it absolutely activates via hot-swap the first time, but bouncing back-n-forth between ports it SOMETIMES -- but rarely -- wouldn't appear. There doesn't seem to be any ill affects to TB if booted into Windows (using same OC as the boot loader).

Curiously, in System Info, the UltraStudio doesn't ever appear unless it's there at startup (see attachments), but works just the same (and is visible in BM Desktop Video). This 'might' be an Apple anomaly, as I went and tried it on a Mac Studio, and it too didn't represent the 3G in System Info unless connected at startup.

Hopefully tonight I can attempt this SSDT on my ProArt z690 at home... it has an LG 5k Ultrafine connected via TB.

@SmackAttack,

Awesome! All of the user reports such as yours are giving us a good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of Thunderbolt on Hackintosh.

The strengths, I think, outweigh the weaknesses even if there are some quirks in TB behavior.

Your efforts (and @Elias64Fr and the others pursuing this) for the good of us all is MOST appreciated!!!

Whelp, on my home z690 (BIOS 2703, OC 0.9.9, Sonoma 14.3) running an LG 5k Ultrafine (with a 2nd DP LG), the results aren't so grand. After mucking with it a great deal, I was able to get the 5k to work briefly with the new SSDT, but every restart puts me right back to having to fiddle with it to get it to turn on. I did also attempt a cold start, which whether through coincidence or not, it resulted in my first TB bus active state. Interestingly, on THIS system, sleep doesn't work (after disconnecting the 5k and running the DP-only monitor, it does go to sleep, but won't wake up) so it looks like I've got some more trouble-shooting to do on my end to be of any help.

Attached, see a SI and IOR screen grab if you're interested. I'll trouble-shoot more when I can, but it will be a few days.

J
