MSI Z590 ACE + i9-10900k Thunderbolt 4 Maple Ridge set up issues

You need to disconnect all the non macOS drives from your setup, while troubleshooting your issues.
You need to boot the system with just the macOS installation USB drive and the proposed M.2 drive for macOS.

Yes, yes, this is a pain but it will be worth it if it helps you get macOS up and running. Also it is only temporary, while you install/troubleshoot your macOS Installation.

I assume you have not been able to install macOS on the M.2 drive highlighted in the 4th bios screenshot and the 5ht screen Snip showing the drive in Windows. The M.2 drive will not show as a boot option until you add your OpenCore EFI folder from the USB drive to the EFI partition on the M.2 drive. As currently it doesn't contain a valid boot option. We use OpenCore because our hacks don't work the same way as a real Mac, where the drive is made bootable when it is erased or formatted to allow macOS to be installed.

You will need to continue to boot from the USB pen drive until you get macOS installed and the EFI folder on the USB copied to the EFI partition on your macOS Drive. Then, and only then it will be selectable in your bios.

Hi CaseySJ, many thanks for reply. I am afraid that I can't access to the boot mode, because the screen just .. show an apple with no processing bar below. So there is some pictures from win10 and bios. Wish it show the issue more clear.
Hello @gguy,

Some questions and suggestions:
  • Is macOS already installed on one of your internal drives?
    • If so, we can an configure OpenCore EFI folder, copy it to EFI partition of USB flash drive, and boot macOS from USB flash drive
    • When macOS is booted, we can mount EFI partition of (a) USB flash drive and (b) internal macOS drive, then copy EFI folder from (a) to (b)
    • Now we can unmount USB flash drive and reboot the system
    • You should then see an option to boot the macOS drive
  • If macOS is not already installed, then we need to create a USB Install Disk for macOS
    • Please let us know if you need assistance with this

Hi, @CaseySJ ,
Thanks for your warm support. I think macOS is not already installed. I am sad to tell you my issue is your second part "macOS is not already installed". Somehow, it became only logo without processing bar, then just stuck there. I don't understand if I need a new USB install Disk, because I can go into the install mode few days before, but now I can't.

Hi, @Edhawk,
Many appriciate for your detailed description. Now I understand that I have to unplug all sata port, and just leave M2 Mvme when I install macOS. But now, I can't go into the install mode. I totally have no idea why there is only apple mark as booting from usb drive. I just apply the EFI from the @stiligFox because same motherboard and CPU.

At the OpenCore Boot Picker, press and release CMD-V to enable boot logs. Then select the option to install macOS. A lot of log messages will scroll by. If the logs freeze please take a photo, remove location/GPS info, and post it.

If you are using the EFI folder from the originator of this thread (stiligFox), then also double check BIOS settings.

Hi CaseySJ, I am trying to install Ventura instead of Catalina. Then, I go to create a installer from MacBook Pro with High sierra. This time, unfortunately, I even can't make it. I just have the message from terminal. Situation seems worse than ever.

SOLVED: High Sierra can't do the installer for higher version MacOS like Ventura.

Ready to start.

To continue we need to erase the volume at /Volumes/MacOS.

If you wish to continue type (Y) then press return: y

Erasing disk: 0%... 10%... 20%... 30%... 100%

Copying essential files...

Copying the macOS RecoveryOS...

Making disk bootable...

Failed to extract AssetData/boot/Firmware/Manifests/InstallerBoot/* from update bundle

The bless of the installer disk failed.

This might be a corrupted installer… or High Sierra being too old to be able to make a working Ventura installer.
I'd suggest to keep it simple and make a Catalina installer. Once you have Catalina working, update to Ventura.

Hi etorix, should I use opencore with last version? Do you recommend OCAT or opencore configurator?

PS: You are right. I make Catalina installer successfully instead of vantura in high sierra finally.

Hi, CaseySJ. I decide to do imac 20.2. So I start to make a EFI and boot. This is the first freeze.

This typically (but not always) means that CFG-Lock is enabled in BIOS. In the BOOT section of BIOS, please check if CFG-Lock exists, and if so, set it to “Disabled”.
