Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Some comments:
  • Are any Device Properties being injected through OpenCore (DeviceProperties --> Add)?
  • Is RadeonBoost.kext being used?
  • Have you tried CMOS Reset (which then requires re-configuring BIOS parameters)?

Thanks Casey, I will check all of this later today and report back.

Hi all, my build has suddenly started having really glitchy graphics. I've not changed anything recently, it's started out of the blue today. RX580 and Monterey 12.5.1. Moving the mouse, moving windows etc all slow and glitchy. It's been stable for so long, I don't know where to start looking :(

I found the problem. For some unexplained reason the display was set to 30Hz. No idea what could have done this. It was a good excuse to update OC and all kexts

Yay. RX 6800 on the way to replace my RX570 and hopefully drive my 4K monitor at high refresh rates. Please remind me what I need to change to get the machine to boot with the new card. If I remember, at least on previos OC versions, there was a switched that needed ticked. I am on 0.8.3 and the latest iteration of Monterey.

We simply need agdpmod=pikera in boot-args.

I've been running this Hackintosh build for a couple of years now with no issues. But, recently, after upgrading to a new RX 6900 XT card and to Big Sur, I'm encountering this annoying black screen after verbose at startup. It's never the same amount of time, sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes up to 3-5 minutes. I've tried switching inputs but it never really helps solve the problem. Not really a huge issue just a minor inconvenience, has anyone else encountered this problem before? For reference, I do have agdpmod=pikera in my boot args.

Hello @timpres10

Some comments/suggestions:
  • Have you tried CMOS Reset? This will require re-configuring BIOS parameters. Gigabyte boards tend to be finicky about changing GPUs, so it's generally a good idea to reset CMOS.
  • Are you using HDMI or DisplayPort output from the 6900 XT?
  • Does your monitor support HDMI and DisplayPort?
  • When the black screen appears, what happens if you power-cycle the monitor (just the monitor)? Does a properly video signal appear? Or screen remains black up to 3-5 minutes?
  • When the black screen appears, what happens if you unplug and re-plug the video cable (from either GPU or monitor)? Does the screen still remain black up to 3-5 minutes?
  • If you are using DP, try switching to HDMI. And vice-versa.

CaseySJ, how did you get the VRR opptions on your 6800? I have my new GPU installed and it booted coprrectly. I only get 4k 120Hz with displayport, not HDMI (despite the monitor and card both being 2.1). I don't, however, see the freesync, VRR options you showed a few pages back. Wondering how you got that!

Also, safe to update to 1.6 Monterey? I am on opencore 0.8.2 - Need to update OC first?

EDIT - I think it's because I am using iMac Pro. Seems that may be one model that doesn't support VRR.

Thanks for the suggestions, I use this Hackintosh as an audio production machine for Pro Tools. I have two monitors hooked up using Displayport and a TV using the HDMI connection on the GPU for a total of three screens. Over the weekend I did the CMOS reset and reloaded all of my BIOS settings and the start-up times have seemed to improve a lot. I've also been waiting to turn the TV on until verbose goes away and this seems to be helping, the black screen only lasting about 10 seconds before the login screen appears.

I spoke a while back about possibly upgrading and getting a 11900K for the Vision-D. There are sales on locally fro the 11900K and I am still on the fence. I confirmed earlier with gigabyte that full PCIe4 is capable on the board. My biggest concern is the compatibility with Hackintoshing. Is there anything to be worried about upgrading the CPU? My concern is around CPU recognition by MacOS, power management features and are there features in MacOS that utilize iGPU which obviously would not work because there is no driver support for 11th gen iGPU's. Can anyone chime in on if it will just be a headache upgrading to 11900K? or if there are any issues they had and are solved. I would like the least amount of headaches and easy patching if any. I am guessing features like sidecar probably wouldn't work because of lack of igpu support.
