Asus Z690 ProArt Creator WiFi (Thunderbolt 4) + i7-12700K + AMD RX 6800 XT

I'm soooo tempted to get this board... but i really really need to convince myself that my Golden (CaseySJ's Golden) Z390 Designare hack is still very much functional and still delivers for the task at hand. With that said,I'm praying that it will suddenly "die" so i can get this instead! :)

https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813145376 Gigabyte Aero D is also now on sale in the US. Currently $419.but no idea on quality assurance. The Gigabyte Z590 was a let down.

It has two front panel USB 3 headers (supports four USB 3.x Type A ports) and three USB 2.0 headers. Looks like a solid choice, but not sure about the BIOS (whether Thunderbolt hot plug will work at all in macOS).

New BIOS released. Version 1003.
Notes:
01. Improve system performance and Window 11 OS stability.
02. Update USB PD FW to 1.0F.
03. Update Intel ME FW to 16.0.15.1620 V3
04. Add Thunderbolt FW update method for onboard Thunderbolt models and ThunderboltEX 4 Card support models
05. Update Intel microcode.
06. Improve DRAM compatibility
07. Change PCIe speed hotkey item from F9 to F6.

I haven’t updated yet. I wonder what the new usb pd firmware does. Unclear whether this bios comes with a thunderbolt firmware update or if it enables the functionality for the nvm to be updated at some later point in the future.
Item 4 is interesting. It suggests the ability to update Maple Ridge firmware from BIOS.

Precisely. No clue on the BIOS or quality assurance. But it is cheaper than the Pro Art for those interested.

I dont think the Z690 mobo prices are justified at the moment. They are just taking advantage of the current situation. I mean it's double the price for a 10-13% performance increase? :)

Yeah I agree. However, Alder Lake 12700K for example is available for lower prices (this time period after launch) compared to prior generations. I remember when the 10700k was around $449 or so. Similar with the 11700k. The 12700k was available for less than 340 at microcenter. Less money more performance.

But Asus z690 pricing is through the roof. I expected the gigabyte aero d and pro art to be roughly the same price given they both have tb4, dp in, 16 power stages with 70A, and so on. The gigabyte has a post code led, the pro art does not. Yet the pro art is $60 more expensive.

Not sure why asus increased prices so much. Other than of course to cash in on gamer/creator demand

Yeah the Asus tax is crazy this time since they know people buy their products (have to admit that I'm one of them...) But the Z590 Extreme was $800 while the Z690 is $1100.

I wasn't expecting to create a DDR5-based build until later in the year, but over the holidays MicroCenter had the i7-12700K in the full retail package for $299 so I grabbed one!

You did quite well sir, $299 for a 12700k is a steal!
