Gigabyte Z690 Aero G + i5-12600K + AMD RX 6800 XT

@CaseySJ do you think I can use EFI-076-PRE-Z690-AERO-G-V3 as a starting point to boot
my Mini ITX hack with Z690I Aorus?
Although USB ports in this EFI folder are not configured for the Z690I Aorus, it should be okay. If the macOS installer does not boot, then we can:
  • Disable SSDT-UIAC-Z690-AERO-G.aml
  • Disable USBPorts.kext
  • Enable XhciPortLimit kernel quirk
... and try again. It might also be wise to comment out all of the DeviceProperties by putting a # in front of each device on the left side.

** BIOS F6a Update **

Unfortunately BIOS F6a does not solve these problems:
  • Reboot on second wake-from-sleep. Disabling CNVW device with DeviceProperties does not help either.
  • Freeze at Gigabyte splash screen when USB 3 hub is connected to front panel USB Type A port.
Gigabyte responded to my support ticket asking to test the USB 3 hub on other ports. Boot process does work when Hub is connected to USB ports on rear IO panel. Boot process freezes only when Hub is connected to front panel USB 3 Type A port. I have responded back to Gigabyte, but if others can reproduce this problem (with front panel USB 3 Type A port) then I can provide more data to Gigabyte.

If you have a USB hub with Type A port, do you also experience a freeze at Gigabyte splash screen if that hub is connected to front panel USB 3 Type A port? Connecting the hub to rear IO panel is okay. Only a connection to front panel port causes the freeze.
@CaseySJ

I don't have my board in a case yet. Hopefully by the end of the day it will be cased and I will test.

Where does one find the F6a BIOS? It's not on the GB site.

BIOS F6a is on the Gigabyte website for the DDR4 version of the board:

Hello everyone, We have successfully completed a clean install of Monterey.

EFI-076-PRE-Z690-AERO-G-V3 with no modifications other than Platform information inserted.
Bios configuration as per @CaseySJ’s recommendation.
We have chosen P Cores enabled, E Cores disabled and HyperThread enabled.
We have also Disabled ResizeGpu-Bar

Components:

Z690 Aero G
i7 12700K
64Gig Ram
RX 6800 XT (Slot 1)
Titan Ridge TB card, Unflashed. (Slot 2)
Fenvi T919 WiFi / Bluetooth (Slot 3)
Liam LI AIO cooler

WD SN850 1TB Nvme. Monterey
WD SN850 1TB Nvme. Big Sur
WD SN850 1TB Nvme. Misc.

@CaseySJ, I am able to reboot with a 5TB LaCie drive connected to HS09/SS07

Successful USB connectivity via the Titan Ridge TB ports however, Thunderbolt devices do not work.
As I pointed out, this TB card has not been flashed.

Great job!

Thunderbolt is the topic we'll tackle next. Which TB card do you have?

We are unable to locate the Rasbery Pi kit that was used to flash the Z490s a while back.

A new kit is being purchased and should arrive in a short time.

What version file (and where do I locate it) should be used to flash the Titan Ridge for use in the Z690?

Using imac20,2 cpudata. I also set custom turbo ratios. 5.2 for up to 2 cores. 5.1 for up to 7 cores. 5.0 for up to 8 cores. So I’m boosting higher under load as well. I probably could set all 8 cores to boost to 5.1, but I will have to test that later. Using a Very similar voltage to comet lake, albeit slightly lower which is impressive. Yes imac20,x expects an igpu for drm but you can enable the amd gpu to process drm.

I wouldn’t worry too much about squeaking out additional performance unless you have adequate cooling, or don’t mind an increase in temps.

F6A also fixed some bugs in the boosting algorithm. It is doing much better at holding the overclock under load… f3a was down clocking back to 4.6 GHz under load but f6a holds the frequency to 5.0 GHz. I need to test temps in other applications as well. With f6a, idle temps have gone down even lower, from 33 degrees to 29. Using an nzxt kraken with the stock bracket until I can get my hands on a lga1700 bracket.
what was the flag that you used for AMD GPU drm ?

@CaseySJ

I have installed the Aero G into a Fractal Design Meshify 2 case with these front panel ports. I also installed BIOS F6a.

Fractal Meshify 2.jpg

I use this IOGear Sharing Switch that my mouse and keyboard are plugged into.

IOGear Sharing Switch.jpg
I can boot without any problems with the switch plugged into either of the front USB 3.0 ports, and with a SSD drive in a USB housing plugged into the Gen 2 Type-C port at the same time, or one at a time.

The USB 3.0 next to the reset button is not active once booted into Monterey. I'll need to do some remapping if I want to use it.

Is this the type of configuration causing you booting problems?

There are several Titan Ridge add-in-cards on the market, but I believe you have the Gigabyte's GC-Titan Ridge. We recommend NVM33 from Designare Z390. All of the details are in the Gigabyte Z390 build thread. Please have a look at the Quick Reference to Mini-Guides and Micro-Guides at the top of that build guide. Section 8 contains all Thunderbolt-related references, including a link to the Repository.
