pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

Looks like 2 possibilities then

1. either put in a Vega 64 card and use Mojave, or
2. Retain 5700 XT and upgrade to 10.15.2

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

2020. Wow. What a year...

Although I was often stuck at home and bored, there was never a dull moment...

My home town is run by two brain surgeons who are bankrupting businesses and allowing anarchy to run amock.

Thank goodness its over indeed. As it is New Years, ill make my question brief, but, essentially my rear mic port does not work, and my front mic port is very static-y (there's a constant buzz when trying to run microphone information through it). I have changed cords, and tried restarting, etc, but nothing seems to work. I looked for any possible audio kext or fixes on here, but have come up empty. Anyways, Happy New Year;

Happy new year!

If you look at the list of supported codecs by AppleALC, you see:

You can try all of those layout-ids to see which will enable your mic ports. I have never used the mic port so I don't know which will work.

Honestly, I ask you questions each year and I am amazed by your punctuality with responses. God bless, and have a Happy New Year! I will try this and let you know, thank you for the feedback

ah. well i figured out two things. The Port works, it’s just very very very quiet, and bad quality. and in clover i have two “audio devices” that are conflicting with each other. I have gone through a couple different layout id injections, and the port technically “works” it’s just bad quality (essentially even worse then the front mic port). If i keep trying with different Ids will this get better, or will it be the same kind of thing? I don’t know much about all the kexts and Ids, and i feel bad asking you all these questions, but thank you for helping me.

Did you adjust the "Input Volume" in System Preferences > Sound > Input?

I don't know if other layout-ids will improve quality.

i did, that’s how i realized it was coming through. i make music, and use garage band, and when i plugged it into the back, and monitored the sound coming in, if i clapped it would peak slightly, so i figured to turn it up. it was up halfway and i couldn’t hear it, and then if it was full, it was pretty audible, just unbearably bad quality. that’s fine if the layout Id-s won’t fix it, i figured i would ask. My next question would then be if you know any work arounds or an audio card or something that would possibly remedy it? based on your last response of you dont know about this sort of stuff that’s completely fine, i just figured i would ask.

No, I don't know which audio cards work well. I just use the built-in mic on my Logitech webcam for FaceTime.
