A live version of ubuntu can do the job you just need to have the edid of your internal screen. You can also use windows software like this one.

Things like this are above my level, I have no idea how to proceed. Thank you for your support.

I tried the guide twice and it failed to work twice, so far. I can't even boot into the installer. Despite verbose the screen goes black, 10-15 seconds later I am back to the Opencore boot menu. I don't exactly NEED Big Sur, Mojave is working very nicely, I just don't like not being able to make my laptop do what I want ;)

Does anybody know _why_ Big Sur won't work in 4K above 48Hz?

Navaira, I am booting into Big Sur with no problem with the EFI you provided not long ago, my only edits were to the ROM and serial number other than a few minor tweaks. I did find it completely impossible to load Big Sur after initial install until I used CCC to clone BS to an external drive and then back after completely reformatting the partition to APFS. Would like to discuss a few other aspects of the laptop some time if you're interested. I notice though that you mention being unable to boot into the installer. I think somehow replacing OC with the current Debug and changing to debug settings somehow just ended up working after being stuck for quite awhile before that. No other specific changes I can think of offhand. Perhaps you are talking about a totally different system than the C930 though?

Edit: I remember I did have to remove AirPortBrcm4360_Injector from the Plugins folder of the AirportBrcmFixup.kext and from your config.plist

Sharing the image you received the error can guide those who can help find a solution.

No, it is the C930! Interesting – I have an external USB installer and it just won't boot – black screen, restart. I will try the debug. Did you also use the 48Hz patch?

Black screen with nothing on it :)

Add -v to the boot arguments. Since your internal screen is 4k, chances are you will get this error. You should try the EDID patch. Add new version whateverGreen kext

If I remember correctly, after adding the default changes to config.plist recommended to Debug in the Dortania guide I was suddenly booting into the installer. There's no sense to why that would work, but I don't remember making another change other than the kext mentioned above. In Big Sur, a scaled Display setting of 2048 x 1152 by alt-clicking the Scaled button doesn't have the artifacts you will get with the 1920x1080 setting (except in tablet mode, but when rotating the display it may default back to 1920x1080. I haven't messed with tablet mode much yet). I also noticed that you don't have NVMefix.kext, which may be helpful for you. I hadn't added that to the installer though. I could try to add my current EFI to my installer USB and see if it will still boot from that. If it does, I'm glad to send the EFI back over to you.
