Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Thanks for your response.

I did not use Migration Assistant so no old data was carried over yet.

I used ‘config-Intel-iGPU.plist‘ at this stage.

I have not been able to open the Photos App successfully yet even though it was a clean install.

I cannot change the icon for my account and the same thing happens if I create a new account.

I will try resetting NVRAM and the Safari suggestion later when I get home.

All this is a real shame as everything else works great. The installation instructions were super detailed and easy to follow which is a real credit to your efforts. I’m beginning to wonder if a fresh install may be required or I have a hardware incompatibility of some kind.
I may delete the iGPU option because it causes too many problems. This means everyone will be required to have an AMD GPU...

Anyway, we need to switch you over to headless platform ID. This is easy to do in OpenCore Configurator. Just open your config.plist in OpenCore Configurator and go to the DeviceProperties section, then select the items shown:

Change your file to look like this. Then post a screenshot of the changes (before rebooting) so I can confirm.

Hi Tom,

thanks for your reply!

  • I have no overclock, XMP turned off, everything on stock settings, teste both Bios F6 and F5 same issue.
  • It's GSkill RipJ V, XMP turned off.
  • I tried removing USB drives but not yet WiFi+Bluetooth card.

Any help is welcome.
Thanks.
Hello @zzmadd

Nice to see you've moved to Z490. What is your memory configuration: How many DIMMs and what size of each DIMM? Which WiFi/BT card are you using? Please provide a link to the exact card you purchased. Note that we're having some problems with "counterfeit" Fenvi cards that are not sold by the official Fenvi store on Amazon and NewEgg.

These cards have been such big sellers for Fenvi due to the hackintosh movement. It's inevitable that third party scammers will get involved to make a quick buck on this trend.

Hi there, thanks for your reply!

Trying to fix the issue I rised the Load Line Calibration and applied Fixed Voltage and the system now doesn't reboot anymore.
If such was the issue then it has to do with CPU auto settings from Gigabyte.
There's was no overclock or anything just a base i9 10900 non K

On the Vision D does anyone have the issue of when the power supply is cold booted (i.e., turned off and then on again) that the Vision D power cycles twice.

In other words, if you cut off power to the motherboard, and then cut it on again, when you press the power button on the motherboard, does the Vision D boot up once or does it come on for two seconds, go off, and then come on again?

The latter is happening to me. I’m working with Gigabyte but they’re saying it doesn’t happen in their lab. The same was happening on the MEG Z490 Ace but MSI fixed it with an updated beta BIOS. Gigabyte doesn’t seem to think there’s any problem. But I am about to record a video of it and send to Gigabyte.

This is completely normal. Happens on Designare as well. It’s a sign that BIOS is scanning for hardware changes.

But it doesn’t happen on MSI. Only time I’ve ever seen my MSI board power cycle twice is when I add a NVME card or when I add a pcie card into one of the lower pcie slots closer to the chipset. Otherwise it boots once always. Even if the power supply was off for a month.

Interesting that gigabyte is different. Gigabyte seems to think that the motherboard only boots once upon power supply cold boot, no power intermediate cycling.

Each time we change Boot Arguments (adding -v for example or removing -v), it's necessary to reset NVRAM because OpenCore plays some silly tricks.

I think it might be helpful to add this somewhere to post #1.

To make sure we're using the same definitions:
  • Cold Boot means we shutdown the computer and (a) flip power switch on PSU to off or (b) pull power cable from the wall or (c) turn off the power strip if we're using a power strip.
  • Warm Boot means we shutdown the computer, but we don't do (a) or (b) or (c).
The behavior you described should only happen on cold boot.

Added to the end of Troubleshooting / FAQ section.
