I am trying to install mojave on an old desktop i have.
I am getting the universal "no" sign. THink ghostbusters logo but white.

I used unibeast to create flash drive
MB - gigabyte h170n wifi
cpu i3 6100
vid- r9 fury nano

I have not added or removed anything from what ever unibeast setup. I assumed once i go tinto the OS post install i would need to worry about kexts etc.

Any point me in the right direction or let me know what additional info to acquire to get appropriate help.

The first step in problem diagnosis is to boot in verbose mode then act on the information shown.
If you need help then post a picture of the screen when it stops.

It probably says "still waiting for root device" in the bottom left corner, in which case you can use the forum search tool to look for that.

I added some missing kexts from some of the threads i found. Still no luck. I am sure I am doing multiple things wrong.

  • Currently uploaded CLOVER/kexts/Other and config.plist/Devices_USB look OK
  • Problem could be in the BIOS/Peripherals.
  • See attached image for guidance

  • With above BIOS and CLOVER after editing, are you still getting the same Prohibit entry error?
  • I did not see any new Verbose to confirm.
  • If that error is still there, then try different USB ports one after the other.

Tried all 4 usb 3 ports on mb and 2 on case. No usb 2 ports. Do i need a usb 2 hub?

argh... i used one of those usb extensions that come with wireless mice for the dongle. that seems to have gotten me past this error. I assumed this would make it appear as usb 2.
thanks

Yes, because if you are using a USB 3 memory stick in a USB3 port that is connected with a USB extension then it force it down to USB 2 since USB 3 has a lot more pins. Interestingly, when you connect a USB 2 device to a USB 3 port, the connection can by pass the USB 3 controller and can be passed to a USB controller, which is supported.

My rule of thumb: in any new installation , do NOT have any other devices in USB ports EXCEPT USB mouse, Keyboard and the USB macOS Installer Flash disk , and NO device in SATA ports EXCEPT the Target SATA HDD or SSD to avoid conflict .

If you have a SATA HDD/SSD as your target for macOS connect that to SATA Port 0.
