X58A-UD7+i7-920 and Mojave

Upgraded today to Mojave Version 10.14.6 Beta (18G29g) and everything seems to be working well.

Thanks for sharing! I still have not been able to open all ports on my 580.. I had to take a break, was at for a few weeks. Looks like the new Mac Pro, standard, comes with the 580 installed.

Updated to Mojave Version 10.14.6 Beta (18G48f) with no problems. Testing shows everything working just fine.

UPDATE: Rx580 will not wake from hibernation - short sleeps are OK, but overnight and next day the graphics card does not wake up - monitor sees no signal. May need a whatevergreen / lilu update.

I see there is somebody who has been able to install Mojave with an Nvidia GTX 480. I have an Nvidia GTX 650ti and the mobo is a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 Bios F13, but just before the installing procedure OSX informs that "MacOS could not be installed in your computer". So, it seems it is impossible to install that version of macOS 10.14.5 on my computer. Any suggestion?

Do you use the native drivers for the 650ti? Is Metal shown as supported in the system profile? I was able to install with my 740GT (native drivers and Metal support).

I also updated my boot ROM version in Clover before I tried the update (I'm using the 5,1 system definition).

Anyone have any luck with a XFX rx580 4gb GTS, or any XFX rx580 card ?

I get a black screen on booting to the desktop, when i vnc into my machine everything looks ok.

I'm using lilu and weg and the standard dsdt (no edits) for my board.

same here

DX58so board, updates past 10.14.5 are a disaster , latest WEG/LILU

HDMI by itself completely unusabe, black screen or all green, or worse pulsing snow

DP to a 4k.. intermittent .. during the updates it would flat out refuse to provide video during the post update 'registration' screen where you do privcy, select keyboard etc. found threads on line that ream mac pro 5,1 users with vega also had same issue.. apple bug where OpenCL / metal calls not proper for this card.. they solved by re-installing ancient supported nvdia cards to pass that registration process

if I get video up on the 4K, and plug HDMI in everything goes black

getting logs of gpu.restarts in the conole crash logs

I am still trying to decide if I need whatevergreen in the first place

I have a DSDT that provided me native video without whatevergreen and the vega..
further, whatevergreen only talks about settings and flags etc for processors ivy and newer.. I am on a dx58 platform with w36xx generation processors .. so what settings and boot flags to I use.. never addressed in their docs

I am hearing the 10.14.6 and the supplimentals are breaking more than they fix in many cases and lots of black screen and multimonitor issues .. even on real macs

Maybe Apple pushed back the Catalina release till October so they could fix all of these problems first.

Hi,

I have a gigabyte x58a-ud5 rev 2.0. Just bought an RX 580 to try and install Mojave on it. I tried installing it with Unibeast, but no matter what I did, I can never get the installer to complete, it kept rebooting over and over again. I read every possible post about the reboots, tried everything, and gave up.

I then did what this poster did below:

I used another Mac to install Osx on my SSD, then installed Clover legacy, did everything else, but kept getting X64 Red screen of death errors on booting. I realized that the installation was good, because I can boot into it from my other mac, but anytime I installed Clover legacy, or even used Multibeast, I can never get clover to boot from the SSD itself. The only way I got it to work was to use my USB with Unibeast mojave on it, and then select my SSD to boot into the rig.
Now here is my issue, why cant I get Clover to boot properly off the SSD with Mojave on it?
I have tried everything:
I have my DSDT from the tonymac website (worked perfectly in previous installs),
I even tried downloading Going Bald's EFI folder and comparing it to mine, even tried using it
Using MacPro5,1 smbios
Installed all the required kexts (lilu, whatevergreen, fakesmc, applealc...)
I have looked into the config.plist, not really different from other people's.
Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
Now up and running.
Problem was with installer wanting to do a firmware upgrade before installing. Stork suggested changing system definition to iMac 14,2 and installing with that and then changing it back to Mac Pro 5,1 (thanks, Stork). Did that and upgrade from High Sierra to Mojave went smoothly. APFS on SSD seems a bit faster than HFS+ on a platter drive; apps open and close quickly. So far, even with 12 apps running at once I have not seen the "spinning beachball" of system busy indication.
To get audio after upgrade, per instructions (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/mojave-applehda-audio.260004/ )remove all previous audio install (config.plist edits, ALCHDA extensions, old AppleALC.kext, old lily.kext, etc.), then add new lilu.kext and AppleALC.kext to Clover/kexts/other and reboot. Audio working again. Thanks, toleda.

The only odd thing happening is on boot. The progress bar under the apple gets about halfway and the screen flashes a bright white and almost instantly presents the log-in screen.

I like the dark mode.

Well, it looks as if my venerable Mac Pro 5,1 (2010) is unable to run Mojave. The installer insists I have to have a GPU supporting Metal and File Vault turned off. The System Profiler says my RX580 is metal supported, but I could not get past that first screen.

However, there is more than one way to get to the installer.
I re-inserted my HS drive, booted it and opened terminal, typed in:
sudo /Applications/Install\ MacOS\ Mojave\ Beta.app/ Contents/Resources and the installer started. Lots of text lines later it tells me:
unsupported CPU
unsupported CPU
unsupported PCH

does about 20 lines of checksums and reports corruption for each one.

How do you get a 2012 Mac Pro 5,1 definition instead of the 2010 one? I have ordered a MacPro upgrade kit with a 6core Xeon W3670, but it may not get me the 2012 definition when I install it. Will have to wait and see.
Thanks for doing the grunt work on getting this to work! I got my own config up and running with virtually no sweat thanks to you.

Happy to breathe new life into this old hardware -- been a few years since I've used it on the daily due to a lifestyle change and the need to move to more portable computing. This desktop is where I really got my start with modding, doing dev work, and hackintoshing as well. Built my first hack on this machine back in 2009-2010ish, pretty sure it was a variant of Leopard or Snow Leopard, and it's just amazing how much of an easier process it is today than back then.

It's also crazy how this architecture kicked butt back then and still does today. Running 3.8Ghz stable on air cooling, stock voltages, and that's just because I haven't pushed it higher since resurrecting the system earlier this year. Absolutely nuts how overclocking-friendly Bloomfield was, and I have an exceptionally binned chip -- I remember being able to run it up to 4.1 on stock voltage fairly cleanly, and I got it up to 4.4 with voltage tweaks.

Happy to be able to go back to using my faithful old system.
