@pastrychef Great rundown and explanation, thank you - I appreciate that.

@mattystonnie Interesting about the X299 part. That was sort of my concern or question about how the basic i7-8700 would be treated with an iMacPro SMBIOS.

I assume the big drawback here is just the CPU mismatch of Xeon vs Core i7?

I could care care less what the SMBIOS is if it "just works well" - that's my goal here.

Would you suggest going with iMacPro 1,1 and disabling iGPU and calling it good?
Vega support there I assume since they ship with Vegas?

Until 10.14.5 release go for iMac Pro 1,1. Yes they have Vega too.

It's possible you have corrupt AppleGVA.framework. Please see the bottom of this post for instructions on how to restore a clean one.

Also, check that you don't have NoVPAJpeg.kext in /Library/Extensions/.

Ok I did but I think the problem is shikigva=1

When I remove shikigva=1 now H264 working.

But No iTunes DRM. Even I can't watch the downloaded movie. Always getting a black screen. Normally I always watched the downloaded movie without any problem.

I tried shikigva=12 and shikigva=60 but it didn't help.

I want to try with Sony 4K video which you shared the link previous page but I cant downloaded always giving an error.

Did you get a clean AppleGVA.framework?

Here's link to the Sony Camp video. Link will self destruct in 3 days.:

Yes, I got cleaned.

I test it the video no problem. The CPU usage is normal.

are we still need NoVPAJpeg.kext?

That's good. What results do you get from running the VDADecoderChecker script from post #247?

I just have to say, this thing is running so great on iMacPro 1,1 - even with the RX 580 in there.

Something changed, maybe it's just the 10.14.5 beta 3, but my RX 580 fans are tamed completely now and dead silent and off unless temps call for some action.

It's new video card drivers. The Radeon VII and Vega users are also having great success with 10.14.5 betas.
