Hello all, before i request my help needed with mojave install i feel a have to thank this website TonyMacx86 for giving me many years of yosemite install But it's time to say bye to yosemite

My system specs .....
Assus p5k pro
GeeForce 8600 GT
Sata hard drive
8gb ram
Intel x9650 Extreme

I have created a USB using the legacy install using unibeats with no graphic injecters
I have installed Mojave on the hard drive after a few reboots thats normall as the hard drive does not have post install on it yet.

The problem im having is getting the hard drive that i installed Mojave on to complete install by chosing language,
I boot from USB and then select the drive ive installed Mojave on, apple logo appears and progres bar goes up but then the machine restarts before i can get to the language part.
Ive used -v and GraphicsEnabler=No still no joy, ive used all boot flags i can possibly use but still cant get to the hard drive to complete install.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • With the Listed Hardware you cannot install and use Macos Mojave. Your problem will be your Graphics.
    • You don't have a Mojave-supported Graphics card either pCIE or Integrated.

Thanks cmn699 i thought thats the problem is there no way around this or do i have to change graphics card? Also what graphic card would you recommend for my setup.

  • In all my Intel 6, 7 , 8 and 9 series Systems without any Integrated Intel HD from their Intel CPUs , I found Nvidia GT 710 (Gaming GeForce GT 710 2GB GDRR3 64-bit HDCP Support DirectX 12 OpenGL 4.5 Single Fan Low…) an inexpensive way to overcome the problem and still use the same Nvidia GT 710 Graphics card for all my other OSes (Windows 10 +Linux Distros along with macOS Sierra, HS 10.13.6 and Mojave 10.14.3.)
  • Nvidia GT 710 is natively supported in Mojave
    • No config.plist editing of any kind is required.
    • Add WhateverGreen.kext , Lilu.kext and AppleALC.kext to EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other and also
    • install the above 3 kexts in /L/Extensions using a kext installer App like Kext Utility|Kext Wizard|KextBeast [whichever you find easy to use]

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Mojave requires the SSE4.2 instruction set.

For Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 with only SSE4.1, without SSE4.2
Replace com.apple.telemetry.plugin with one from 10.13.x
/System/Library/UserEventPlugins/com.apple.telemetry.plugin

I havent figured out how to copy the telemetry plugin.

I have 2 internall sata drive and the USB attached to the machine.

1 drive has a working yosemite
2 drive is the drive im installing Mojave
3 USB is a bootable Mojave installer

i press f8 to choose where to boot from.

i believe the telemetry plugin should be placed on the drive of new Mojave install from looking at BreBo post above.

if i boot into my OS yosemite i dont see the hard drive where Mojave is installed, i can open clover configurator and mount the EFI folder but thats all i can seem to do.
OR

Do i open terminal after booting from USB! what is the command in terminal to copy the telemetry plugin from yosemite desktop over to the new Mojave drive.

Thanks you all for taking the time to assist me, i truelly appreciate it.

  • I don't think BreBo has given you a comprehensive answer you were looking for: he has given you the right idea to fix and hopefully you can find all the steps involved in doing that by searching "Telemetry plugin _Mojave" or something like that as the Search Term.
  • The lack of the required SSE4.2 for Mojave with your CPU usually shows up after you complete the hard disk installation and try to reboot the Mojave System Hard disk where you cannot boot back to Mojave Desktop without correcting this issue.
  • From your post without any Verbose or other Display Screen shots to assist us to understand the exact stage of Mojave Installation on the hard disk, each may read into the text and come up with different impressions.
  • Mojave installation is a multi-phase multi-reboot process with 3-4 reboots after varying durations of file copy from the USB Installer between reboots.
  • The final reboot before System setup from Language and region to Desktop and Keyboard is marked by the appearance of Recovery Disk icon on the Clover Boot Manager(CBM) Screen.
  • When you can see Recovery Disk icon on CBM screen , the boot that follows from the Mojave System Disk in CBM screen should go through Verbose screens, Apple logo with Progressbar screen, a transient Black screen , an off -white screen and then sudden appearance of Welcome Screen ..>...>....>....Desktop.
  • From your post it is not clear if you had reached this final reboot after Recovery Disk was seen.
  • A boot failure at this stage, in my experience is often from lack of proper Display drivers.
  • I suggest you address that part first.
  • Once you can reach the desktop with a new hard disk BEFORE you reboot that for the First time, you need to fix the "Telemetry Plugin" issue because you can access and navigate to the target folder /System/Library/UserEventPlugins/
  • You can then copy and paste the Telemetry Plugin (uploaded) as suggested by BreBo

  • Another way I can think of is by modifying the downloaded Install macOSMojave from Applications folder before creating the USB Installer in the first place.
    • This is not tested as I don't have a CPU that lacks SSE4.2

  • I have uploaded screen shots of OS X Base System from the installer disk and the target Folder where the telemetry plugin should be pasted.

  1. Open Applications Folder and locate the Install macOSMojave
  2. Right -Click Install macOSMojave >Show Package Contents
  3. Locate Base System.dmg [image #1]
  4. Dbl -click Base System.dmg and you will see it is mounted on the desktop as a white icon [See image #1]
  5. navigate to System> Library>UserEventPlugins [See image #2]
  6. Paste the extracted Telemetry Plugin
  7. Create USB Installer with the modified Install macOSMojave

Thank you cmn699 your post is more detailed and informative, yes i have installed Mojave with a few reboots thats normal using the usb to boot and selecting the hard drive where Mojave will be,
i am at the point where i boot from usb and select target hard drive where Mojave is installed and the progress bar goes up and im presented with a blank white/light grey screen but then reboots, i do believe that should be the welcome screen where you input language etc, i have posted a picture of the screen when i boot from usb.
Take note i do have 2 hard drives on this machine and 1 usb
The HFS is my working yosemite drive
The APFS is where Mojave is installed

I have heard the old nvdia cards will work on Mojave but not full acceleration, still i should be able to complete the install even with no acceleration.

  • Thank you for making the stage of installation clear.
    • Yes, you have reached the stage where you should have the Welcome screen.
    • That Grey screen is often the prelude for the curtain to be lifted for the Welcome Screen to make its appearance.

  • I can think of the only roadblock at this stage for a Graphics issue.

  • Knowing that you have a Yosemite Disk (with CLOVER?) is good as a troubleshoot route
  • You can view your Current Mojave Disk fromYosemite and see if the Installation has already created /S/L/ UserEventPlugins to do the transplant through that and then reboot and see if the problem is related to CPU issue.

  • Boot Yosemite >Desktop
  • Finder>Preferences >[√] Hard Disks [√] External Disks
  • Copy the Extracted Telemetry Plugin
  • Locate ( hopefully ) your Mojave Disk
  • Open Mojave>System/Library/UserEventPlugins
  • Paste Telemetry Plugin
  • Reboot>CBM screen
  • switch to Mojave Disk
  • Verbose Boot Mojave Disk
  • Camera to take photos if needed to upload or complete installation and reach desktop .
    • Retrospective diagnosis : missing Telemetry Plugin
  • Still grey screen Freeze: Graphics issue.

So much fun and games this install has become, all those options dont seem to work, ive attached pix.
1, Tried the easist way to copy it by booting into yosemite, i cant see my Mojave drive but can see it in disk utility.
2, tried to copy the telemerty plugin into the install app of Mojave in applications but its read only and i cant seem to change that by get info and adding read and write.
