you know what, it must be the update. because usb2 devices do not work on those ports anymore and they did previously.

i wonder why it works for you. and not me....

It can't be the update as it works for me... There is absolutely no USB issue with 10.14.4 beta1 and nothing that needs to be changed or improve in consequence. I uploaded my results from the tests I performed for you under 10.14.4 beta1 (and 10.14.3) in one of my previous posts as kind of proof.

Anyway you still have three USB2.0 back-panel ports in the meanwhile and the back-panel USB3.0 port assigned to HS05/SSP5, which is still backwards compatible to USB2.0.. and the three back-panel USB3.0 connectors assigned to HS06/SSP6 you just use with USB3.0 media until you find the error in your configuration. ;)

Good luck!

clean install of 10.14.3 using your efi folder only adding in lilu and whatevergreen (and smalltreeintel...) as well as the required tscadjust.kext....... However, same result.... do you think the asm1074 chip could be dead on the motherboard?

Unlikely but of course not totally to be excluded though.

Check this out (on boot to the installer)

Yea.. plenty of errors during system boot.. some of them also related to the hub, confirming faulty hub implementation as expected.. but you still don't know why really..

let's see if you can further clarify things until tomorrow.. quite late here already.. off to bed soon.. Good luck in the meanwhile!

@shael try to figure out if your USB hub problem persists under Windows. If so, what I don't expect though, your motherboard is faulty..

See you tomorrow..

Just plug a USB2.0 flash drive to each of the 3 USB3.0 connectors, and see if the drive appears in the windows explorer.

Trivial, isn’t it?
