Hi guys,
This build has been awesome, truly a beast. Glad I went with the 64GB of RAM. I am doing a lot in Photoshop, Illustrator, C4D, and After Effects. It is light speed compared to my early 2009 8 core cheese grater (Mac Pro). I've never used a machine that feels this fast in these programs.

Thanks for the tips. I'll have to try iMac18,3 sometime. Do different system definitions actually have an effect on performance? All USB ports do work, but perhaps they could be configured for faster speeds? Is that what you are suggesting with FB-Patcher?

Hi guys, im about to start on a build myself and have ordered a 1080ti but I work a lot in FCPX and am now considering switching to Vega 64... I loved the idea of having duel Vega 64s but didnt think OSX would let you run them Crossfire? How did you get around this and in your opinion what would be better for video editing, the 1080ti or two vega 64s?? Wanting to duel boot and game a little in pc. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Also your build is amazing.

I was wondering about that, I didn't see 3E9B listed anywhere but everything does seem to work. Thanks for the clarification, I'll fix this.

As far as I know, crossfire is not necessary? Probably a good call on switching to Vega 64, I had nothing but headaches with my Nvidia cards. A total breeze with the Vega 64. Good luck with your build.

If I were to get the Sapphire Vega 64 Nitro+, can I just install 2 cards and that's it? No crossfire and will run smoothing in macOS and could also get Mojave instead of High Sierra? Two Vega 64s are the same price as one 1080 Ti so makes sense, will just need a bigger CPU. Thanks.

Also, I have a Z370 mobo, wondering if that will be alright with the two Vega 64s?

Mine ran smoothly out of the box, and even smoother with the headless iGPU settings (even though I was using the device id for the mobile iGPU instead of desktop). Incredibly smooth now.

It should be, just make sure that the board works well regarding your storage option. I.e. some boards share PCI resources with M.2 ports etc. In general, if you have two PCI3.0 ports it should work. Can't hurt to try if you already have it. You may even have higher compatibility with audio etc with that older board.

Hi, I followed your guide and I managed to get Mojave to run on my system, I have a nearly identical build, except an 8086k and only one vega 64.

A minute or two into booting macos completely freezes up, I've tried many different efi configurations and motherboard configurations but I just can't get anything to work. Any ideas?

So it's freezing during booting, while watching the mac logo and progress bar?

Try booting into verbose mode. At the Clover boot menu, instead of hitting Enter on your hard drive, hit spacebar and select verbose. Then 'boot with the selected options'. If your crash is during boot, it should tell you where it's getting caught up. Good luck

No, sorry for the confusion. It is freezing after it has fully booted, after I log in. Some configs freeze later than others, but they all end up freezing completely. No response even from the mouse.

EDIT:
Nevermind, I screwed up. Restoring applications and files from a backup screwed up the installation. I just tried booting off the backup with the same EFI Folder and it worked completely fine.

I don't have the mobo yet but I've ordered it, and its on its way (along with the GTX 1080 Ti that I may send back). This is what it says regarding the PCI
  1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
    * For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.
  2. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)
    * The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot operates at up to x8 mode.
  3. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
    * The PCIEX4 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX1_2 and PCIEX1_3 slots. When the PCIEX1_2 or PCIEX1_3 slot is populated, the PCIEX4 slot operates at up to x1 mode.
  4. 3 x PCI Express x1 slots
(All of the PCI Express slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
So guessing it wouldn't be great having 2 Vega 64s as they would share the PCI? Sorry about this its my first build. Thanks again.
