Which SMBIOS for Vega 64

It depends on what you want to use your system for.

If you disable the IGPU, you can use iMacPro1,1 WITHOUT WEG and DRM should work. It will use your Vega.

I use it for several things, including photo/video editing and personal stuffs (navigation, iCloud services etc), so I need HEVC hardware acceleration especially for exporting from the Photo app.
I don’t use DRM contents so often, so it’s just a “whim”.

I just installed a new copy of macOS Mojave on a USB 3 drive with iMacPro1,1 as SMBIOS - iGPU disabled, of course. It worked even without WhatEvergreen (it was slower to boot). Then I send a HEVC video to the Photo's app on the Hackintosh using AirDrop and tried to export, with and without WhatEvergreen + Lilu. It works fine, but it's not hardware accelerated and I can achieve the same result with iMac18,3 and a dummy kext!

I am also curious what system def I should be using. I have dual Sapphire Vega 64's w/ an i9 9900k (iGPU disabled) running 10.14.1 as iMac14,2. Someone on another forum suggested I use iMacPro1,1 or iMac18,3 but I can't seem to get to the login screen with either. Not quite sure why, only iMac14,2 seems to work.

That's strange. iMacPro1,1 without IGPU should have used your Vega for HEVC.
Wonder if it's App specific..i.e. iMovie.
I have not used iMovie. Are you sure iMovie can export HEVC ?
I though it defaults to H.264 in which it will be CPU based encode (which is what you are seeing).
See tests done here with Video Proc App (it's in German..use google live translate).

If you want to use iMac18,3 you have to use Lilu+WhatEvergreen. You can try by just using the Pike R. board-id patch in Clover but I suggest you to use WhatEvergreen because it automatically patches all what it's needed.

I don't use iMovie. My test is very easy: export an HEVC video from the Photo app made from my iPhone X and synced with my iCloud Photo library.
On macOS 10.14.1 it takes something like 21s to export with iGPU enabled and 1m 45s without the iGPU (it uses the CPU).
I made a stand-alone installation of macOS and updated it to macOS 10.14.2 Public Beta 1 and something have been changed. With the iGPU disabled, altough it's not anymore using the CPU for exporting and the GPU utilization seems very low, it takes "just" 33s.

I figured out why it was not working even when I had Lilu and Whatevergreen placed in EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other....

Problem: Black screen at login in Mojave 10.14.1 when trying to use iMac18,3 or iMacPro1,1

Solution: Apparently Clover is not properly auto detecting whether to inject kexts or not... Clover Configurator / System Parameters / Inject Kexts = "Yes" and also having those Lilu and Whatevergreen in Other fixed it. Thanks to this thread by @jamesst20 for clueing me in.

I wonder how many other things will now spontaneously work..

macOS 10.14.2 is probably going to improve hardware acceleration.

This is a comparison between macOS 10.14.1, with iMacPro1,1 as SMBIOS and latest version of Clover, Lilu and WhatEvergreen (which isn't necessary), versus macOS 10.14.2. The iGPU is disabled in both scenarios.

@Michelinu

Are you experiencing any issues at all with your Vega 64 using iMac Pro 1,1?

No coil whine ?
