Yeh they listened to the guys who want’s or owned an mac mini.
But there are people between the highend pro and mini market.
Me for example. I don’t want a xeon cpu I need SingleCore performance
I don’t want and can use an macmini
That’s why I built hacks

I hear you. I did the same for very similar reasons. But you can't knock the Mac Mini for not being what it wan't meant to be.

Thunderbolt 3 hot plugging with a Hackintosh has never been possible as far as I know. I have been using a UAD Apollo audio interface for many years now and I ALWAYS have to turn the interface on before I boot my Hackintosh, otherwise it's not detected. Quite annoying actually.

The next iMacs will likely have the 9900K (and lower), so get that....

Apple doesn't cater to the middle ground of computing, Mac Mini is the only affordable headless desktop Mac you can get, and I'm glad they didn't just discontinue it.

I'm very happy with my most recent hack that I built about 6 months ago, but these new Mac Minis are great to see!

1. We finally got confirmation that Apple did not abandon the Mac Mini line, as some have speculated.
2. They have abandoned mobile CPU chips and are finally using desktop CPUS in the Mac Mini, great!
3. Apple has made the Minis a lot more user friendly by allowing user upgradable RAM, saving users a lot of money, by not having to max out the RAM with Apple RAM when ordering the machine.
4. Depending on the CPU config, these Mac Minis are decently powered machines.
5. The pricing is just fine, it's Apple after all. Still way cheaper than what I paid for my Macs 20 years ago.

I have to laugh when I hear people say what a great feature it is for users to be able to add RAM themselves. When I'm at the Apple store to get an iPhone serviced under warranty, or buy something, I like to look at the other people there and listen to them. 95% of them would have no clue how to add RAM, they barely know how to turn on their devices.

Having soldered RAM is better?
It might as well be soldered if people aren't going to add it themselves. For some, like people on this forum (very small percentage), it's great. The average person will just buy it with more if they think they need it.

For every person who doesn't know how to upgrade RAM, there are a dozen YouTube videos that show how to do it. If no one upgraded RAM themselves, no one would sell RAM modules.
