Nvidia Drivers for Mojave 10.14 Not Available, no WorkAround works well

Nvidia has already released web drivers for Mojave long time ago but Apple is holding the release. Nvidia web drivers need signature from apple to release and Lord Apple can hold for months or forever as they did with high sierra web drivers. Apple is holding these web drivers updates so people are forced to buy Mac hardware instead of custom builts.

UPDATE 2 : Metal 2(Similar to DirectX12 on Windows) is replacing the OpenGL on MacOS. So in future, you can expect gaming performance of MacOS equivalent to windows. So Apple is going to push Mac lineup even more aggressively in future.

WorkAround : To run your "high sierra web drivers" on Mojave use this but hardware acceleration is missing.

Gaming equivalent to Windows I have just to laugh out loud reading this... in windows even there will be a real time raytracing libraries... and even now Deep Learning by Nvidia (we have to see how the developers push this technologies in the future)... but not only depends in Apple and new libraries to push software and video games... the developers have to make their part making good ports... but looking the support that Apple gives to that sector... I have a lot of doubts... Apple could adopt Vulkan or at least give the choice to install that to the Mac... but no... in windows just a driver update and you had Vulkan... Gaming in Mac will not have a push to be honest... maybe in the next decade but now in the next years...

I am a member of the Nvidia developer forums .. i don't recall seeing any such post .. if this was true it would be public news and would have been covered by the many Apple technical news sites. such as Mac Rumours, OSX Daily, Mac World .. etc

The only post in the Nvidia forums which comes close is the apparent quote from a Russian representative who said 2 to 3 weeks, but as with so many of these rumours this was not an official post from Nvidia just a post from someone saying they heard it.

Sometimes people want to believe in something so much that they will believe anything ....
Until we see an official announcement from Nvidia I would not believe anything your read posted by non Nvidia sources.

I'd like to think that Nvidia are working on new MacOS drivers for Mojave ... but I don't expect we'll see anything soon.

The most logical guess I can come up with is that Nvidia has diverted all available resources to getting Turing drivers right for Windows and macOS priority has dropped further.

I also don't expect Mojave drivers any time soon.

Vulkan is coming to macOS.

You might ask yourself, why doesn't Apple do anything to make gaming on Macs better ? I think it's mostly because high end PC gaming requires lots of airflow and cooling to disperse all the heat created when playing graphics intensive games. Thermal throttling of the CPU and GPU really hampers gaming performance. Name one Apple made Mac that has enough airflow and cooling ability for AAA PC games played for hours at a time. I can't think of one. All Macs have been notoriously bad at cooling. The new iMac Pro is a step in the right direction. The iMac Pro might be good enough, but who is going to game on a $5,000 + professional use machine that isn't optimized to play games ?

Apple already makes a huge amount of money on games and gaming. If you look at the revenue from gaming on iPhones and iPads and Android devices, it's a pretty large revenue stream already. Mobile gaming generates over 70 billion a year ! So why should they try to attract PC gamers who will just use Win10 anyway ? With the start of the ability to port iOS apps over to macOS in Mojave, you'll be able to do much more gaming on your Mac or CustoMac in a year or two. Finally, the last thing Apple needs is more money. They have over 243 Billion dollars of cash on hand and mostly all they do with it is buy back their own stock. (Which is spending money to make even more money !) Their market cap is now well over one trillion dollars.

Yeah I read that too a lot of months ago, when it would be available... the next year... in two years maybe... as I said the developers have to make a better support... and Apple adopting better and tested technologies... otherwise Mac never will be a Gamer Option...

Does it possibly have to do with the Open Source kernel from Apple? They haven’t released anything since 10.13.3. Has anyone noticed whether the web drivers for 13.3 perform better than the web drivers for 13.6? Is the kernel source needed for developing the drivers?

@Gigamaxx,

I would have thought that the likes of Nvidia and other major hardware developers would have access to closed kernel sources under an Apple NDA in order to write MacOs drivers. If they do have to rely on open sources then we are in for a long wait ....

Their relationship is not as good as AMDs is. If the web drivers work better in 13.3 it would possibly explain the bugginess of the HS 13.6 Drivers. There were a lot of changes in the kernel between these versions mostly do to the “meltdown and Spectre” Intel root vulnerabilities. High Sierra introduced the
“Immutable kernel” in prelinkedkernel folder. They have not updated in a long time.

Ah, I'm disappointed to hear that NVIDIA drivers are unlikely to come soon for Mojave. I have an EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC2 right now.

Interested as to others' thoughts on whether this trend is likely to continue (AMD first-class, NVIDIA second-class). Sounds like the case.

And, is the most comparable AMD card (to the 1080) the Vega 64, or perhaps the WX 7100? Seems like these are better options than an NVIDIA card. I wonder if this is worth noting in the Buyer's Guide. Looks like Vega 64 is more suitable for gaming and WX 7100 to CAD/VR work.

I'm strongly considering switching to the Vega 64 or WX 7100 as I primarily use my hackintosh for design work on MacOS and very occasionally dual boot into Windows for gaming.

I completely lost faith in Nvidia when they were unable to fix the UI lag that was introduced with High Sierra. I waited three revisions of macOS. They still didn't fix it. That was it, I sold my GTX 1080 and went with a Vega 56. This was near the height of the crypto mining craze and I paid far more than I should have, but I didn't care.

Since switching, everything has been smooth sailing. Buttery smooth.

Even if Nvidia were to release Mojave drivers tomorrow, it's a crap shot whether the drivers will work well.
