No Audio Devices - AppleHDA Realtek Audio

Bad idea, likely, contributed to your audio problems.

Thank you. I knew that by the time I wrote the message - having seen your advice NOT to run Multibeast (but too late). That was why I went ahead with the full re-installation. Still, I was surprised that inserting a USB adapter "woke" the sound device system.
At the moment, still have Lilu and AppleALC only in Kexts (other). Seems fine, but let us know if that is inferior.
Thanks again.

I celebrated too soon. On next two restarts, No Device returned. And adding the USB adapter only activated the volume control, not the full device preferences menu this time. Don't know why. Did not do anything disruptive. Note, Lilu and AppleALC are only in kexts (other) at the moment. Suggestions welcome. So back to unstable behavior re: sound.

You should put all 3rd party kext's in /L/E ... see Lilu guide for more info :-

Amazing. I followed your advice, and did several changes at once (often dangerous). I moved all kexts to /L/E.
I also replaced outdated graphics kexts with Whatevergreen.
I also read your guide, and deleted/inactivated various graphic related elements in the clover preferences.
To my delight, it worked (tested twice).
So hurray for this forum!

Edit:
Well, over the next four reboots, two failed to load sound devices, so I think there are still some trees in the woods around. But I'll be patient while the real brains improve the tools. Thanks.
