You know what would be cool? A nice thin case that spanned the length of the underside of the MBP 15" with a hard/solid U-shaped USB3 connection on each end that would hold the it in place on the bottom side of the macbook pro. It could hold 3 or 4 SSDs. Bonus if it would take NVMe SSDs

Yes, that's why I showed it to you. It should be better than the M.2 SATA adaptor you were looking at.

I've been testing out the Mushkin Pilot 512GB NVMe They are a little cheaper than Samsung and I have had no issues with any of the Mushkin SSDs I've purchased (3 reactors, 1 Pilot). The 512GB Pilot is VERY fast for transfers up to 16GB, Kinda like the Samsung EVOs. These new NVMe enclosures would be a good use for them. You could also use them internally for faster than SATA drives on older motherboards that won't boot off of NVMe. Just hook it to the internal USB 3.0 ports. If I were to get one of these (or a current gen iMac or iMac Pro), the first thing I would do would be to look in to applying some liquid metal to help lower temps. This should go a long way to help preventing throttling.

Liquid metal? how?

Looks like he’s regretting the liquid metal:
These are crazy expensive machines, and by putting liquid metal in something that is hardware locked is nuts if you want any kind of valid warranty protection. For the hacks, it’s not a big deal to swap components, and play on the riskier side of things, but most people don’t have that kind of disposable income.

For those wary of upfront costs, or hardware lock-in, business financing (leasing) has some flexibility with it, including trade-in/upgrades to the latest stuff, after the lease period*. So maybe you get the configuration you need now, and not what you need 3 years from now.

*Depends on your country. IIRC, Apple subs out the financing to whatever insurance/financing partner in that country. Not sure the upgrade program is available for personal financing, but you probably shouldn’t be using MBP for personal.
