How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

I think I've noticed a bug with the 159 Nvidia drivers that was also present in the 157 drivers but not in 106 ones. After upgrading to the 159 drivers, I am unable to swipe left in the Mail app to delete a message. Wondering if others can confirm/reproduce.

Also, I use spaces/mission control for multiple desktops. Swiping between them works but it laggy/jerky. I'm running an Nvidia 1070 Ti, so this is not a Maxwell chip issue. I'm not seeing other noticeable lags, e.g. with the mouse.

EDIT: The swipe left to delete issue has gone away after subsequent reboots, so perhaps it was an initial install thing. Switching between spaces still is not 100% smooth, as well as some scrolling and app switching.

Hey guys,

Sorry to start a conspiracy, but I’ve noticed an issue on 10.13.3.

I am getting kernel panics when I play music in iTunes or when I play files in finder using the space at preview. iTunes KPs happen at random, sometimes on the first song I play, sometimes after 30mins of playing. I can play music in Spotify and other apps without this issue.

If I just leave iTunes open but not playing music, it will survive for a couple hours before Kp. If I never open iTunes, system will stay up for days, no kp.

I’m a beginner at solving these issues. Is there a method to get a log of the kp? I am looking in console but not finding anything that looks obvious.

Thank you for your help and patience! Is anyone else experiencing this?
Are you using Lilu, Shiki, and nvidiagraphicsfixup? If so, do you have the boot argument shiki=60?

Hi KGP, I wanted to say thank you for sharing all this info! Following the instructions I was able to build a new system and didn't run into a single issue.

I also wanted to let you know that the USB speeds you're reporting are pretty low compared to what they should be. I suspect it's due to you using a spinning disk instead of a SSD. I don't have a SSD thunderbolt drive, but I would imagine it would be limited by the speed of the SSD. Here's a pic you can use of the performance I get over USB 3.0 with a Samsung 850. This was a big concern for me since the machine was built for video work and I depend on external drives.

That part isn't that hard, but don't I need to copy over the EFI folder into the EFI partition? How do I do that during installation?

You do it directly after the installation..

What in your opinion should be the typical USB3.0 transfer rate of a e.g. 850 EVO, if it is just about 600-800 MB/s via SATA?

Typical USB 3.0 transfer rates of spinning disks on real Macs are in the order of 80 MB/s, compared with approx. 125 MB/s via USB3.1 or thunderbolt. I would not see that such speeds cannot be reached on Skylake-X/X299 Hackintosh systems..

Sorry, I cannot confirm that conspiracy ;).. Left swipe and right swipe in the Mail.app just work flawless, also with Web Driver xxx.159!

FWIW I get 430MB read & write with 1TB 850 EVOs in Orico USB3 cases attached to USB3 ports on my Build. I have no USB3.1gen2 or TB3 devices to test with.

I am using Lilu, but not nvidiagraphicsfixup or shiki. I was under the impression that nvidiagraphicsfixup wasn’t needed any more.

NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext is obsolete with SMBIOS iMacPro1,1.
