Not maybe @kgp this is related to it!
Already told this if I remember right 3 times in this thread. The FSCK check only starts if non APFS drives are available... other way around just add a hfs+ drive to your setup and see your boot times raise !!!

Allright, if so why not to use exclusively APFS disks and the APFS boot issue is solved as in my case?

Anyway, thanks to your contribution it seems that we found the reason for the deviating observations.

Looks great.

@Thireus, maybe the problem is that you implement both APFS and HFS+ disks in your system? I do solely use APFS disks.

Can you try to remove any HFS+ disk and see if your APFS boot time improves?

That would be an interesting test to do and it would be great to know about your results.

I have two NVME 2TB 960 Pro drives now. One is exclusively APFS, then other one is exclusively HFS+. Same results, APFS is super slow. So this is not the issue.

But did you remove the HFS+ NVMe as proposed and just use the APFS NVMe?

If that works also format the other NVMe in APFS and you should have full APFS boot performance by even having both APFS NVMe drives connected..

Did you unplug the drives or how did you test it ?

Well to be completely honest with you I also have USB flash drives that are HFS+, they are also shown in Clover. They are my installers for MacOS.

Initially my boot time was about 40sec when only one NVME on APFS was plugged (with my other USB drives). When I plugged that second NVME on HFS+ in addition to the first one the APFS boot time increased to 1min (this is what you can see on the video). I also noticed that when I plug an external Clover USB formatted in HFS+, the boot time increases as well.

So I believe you are correct, it might be because the system checks all drives available.

Unplug all other drives and everything will be good! Like I said all drives which are not APFS will be checked via fsck...

Yes, you're correct, with limited HFS+ drives boot time becomes much faster. Unfortunately I need these drives, so I'll stick with HFS+ for now.

Glad we understand what the issue comes from!

Thank you.

@Thireus, thus the problem is identified and the issue resolved?

Please don't see me as a dictator, I just try to moderate a little bit my thread from time to time when ever necessary just to keep everything consistent and to avoid confusion.

There is really no bad intention from my side against you or anybody else. And there is absolutely nothing personally I could have against you.

The entire discussion was fruitful at the end and has been clarified and resolved rapidly thanks to the help of @DSM2. I think that's what counts.

I still remember the good times we shared together under X99 and I am still thankful for some of your contributions.

All the best,

KGP

@kgp : Maybe we should add that to the first post or what do you think? Not that we have to discuss this a 4th or 5th time ?

Sure, I will do that as soon as possible under C.), error prevention.. Hopefully by tomorrow, I had it already in mind.

Cheers man, and once more many thanks for your contribution and clarification

Hi guys, my system is now stable with audio on alc1220 ;).Thanks to @kgp and @DSM2 for your patience.
I would like to implement the HDMI Audio either, would it be possible without touching alc1220 audio?

You do not use NvidiaGraphicsFix.kext v1.2.2 with Lilu.kext v1.2.1? This should automatically add HDAU on your system.

Just connect a different DP board with your monitor. The digital audio signal is not on all DP boards of your GPU.

Hope that helps..

@kgp hi could you help with gaming 9 x299 and 7900x and rx560.

I followed the guide to the t and I can’t get past the 2nd stage of the install procedure (booting off the usb and launching installer from nvme)

It gets stuck where it says 11 minutes remaining.

Do you think it has to do with the fact that it’s a Samsung ahci rather than nvme?

I have tried optio driver 3 and same issue every time.
