10-20 minutes max.

did it stop with the apples? Or did it go back to loading bar?

Try again at boot hit the space bar once. select verbose, single user, don't reboot on panic, keep symbols, and debug kexts. It should stop at root# type in without "" marks. "fsck -fy" then at second root# "exit".
If I do it without any boot args, then it does the eight apple thing forever until I shut the computer down. If I do the boot args listed in your post, then it eventually goes to the loading bar and apple logo. however, the loading bar stays at 0% and the cursor changes to the beach ball loading thingy. I tried installing clover on the main drive and upgrading directly, but the same things apply to that method.

SUCCESS! I was able to install El Capitan Using the Standard LATEST .plist file from this link: http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...ublic-beta-installation-usb-using-clover.html
Then I copied the kexts from EFI/Clover/Boot/10.10 to EFI/Clover/Boot/Other
Then I just booted from USB without any Boot args and It did the eight apple thing for a few minutes, and then the loading bar restarted and It got to the Installer. After it installs, my next goal is to upgrade to High Sierra!

Nice, you got it working. Do you have HD2500 graphics or HD4000? High Sierra will need at least HD4000 or if you only have HD2500 get a Nvidia gt210 or gt710 for $40 US to get graphics working.
I have the HD4000. I am having trouble upgrading to High Sierra. The installation stalls about 5/8 of the way through before it reboots. It stops right between the Letter h in macintosh and h in HD. It won't let me use UniBeast. It says it is an incomplete application or something? I have tried redownloading it from the app store, but nothing works. What should I do to try and fix it?

Relax, download the latest Clover boot loader Google it. Run it to the drive you want to load HS on and choose legacy mode. Check your config.plist for the proper system definition iMac 14.2 probably best for your setup. Download clover configurator it should work for El Capitan.

how do I check my config.plist?

how do I check my config.plist?

Open your HD icon and open clover folder right click on config.plist and choose open with clover configurator.

When it open go to symbols and on the right side there is a magic wand and arrows scroll to the iMac 14.2 def.

Then go to graphics settings and check object intel and for ig use arrows to select the ivy bridge 0x0223000? Setting for desktop graphics.

Then go to kernel and kext patches and select CPUID 0x0306A0
