If I do it without any boot args, then it does the eight apple thing forever until I shut the computer down. If I do the boot args listed in your post, then it eventually goes to the loading bar and apple logo. however, the loading bar stays at 0% and the cursor changes to the beach ball loading thingy. I tried installing clover on the main drive and upgrading directly, but the same things apply to that method.10-20 minutes max.
did it stop with the apples? Or did it go back to loading bar?
Try again at boot hit the space bar once. select verbose, single user, don't reboot on panic, keep symbols, and debug kexts. It should stop at root# type in without "" marks. "fsck -fy" then at second root# "exit".
