Don't see "install MacOS High Sierra" partition when booting from USB…

I updated
After I posted that response in #7, I went to check your Motherboard Specs etc from MSI website.

I then recked your current BIOS . It is shown in one of the images as Build date 02-14-2017

Then I noted this about a newer BIOS
Z270 GAMING PLUS (MS-7A75) V1.3 BIOS Release 2017-08-03

I was wondering why they had to release so soon after your BIOS date > I found the following :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. This is AMI BIOS release

2. This BIOS fixes the following problem of the previous version:
- Updated micro code.
- Improved USB 2.0 device compatibility.
- Improved memory compatibility.
- Support clear optane setting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That prompted me to test a new ADATA USB 3.0 Flash disk 32GB as a HighSierra 10.13.2 installer disk in my System with GA B85M-DS3h +intel i3 4160+Nvidia GT 710 .
I had no problem to reach the Installer screen >Disk Utility.
I did not go through a new installation as I already have High Sierra 10.13.2 in that system.

I can then say it is NOT a 32 GB USB that is causing the problem.

  • I will suggest upgrading your BIOS which supposedly "improves USB 2.0 device compatibility" according to the manufacturer of this board.
I did not check further as to what problems reported by users prompted them to come up with this new BIOS release.

I updated my Bios, it is using the latest version, but still cant reach the installer.

Thanks for your suggestion, but my bios was already updated and before posting, 6 different flash disk with different capacities have been tested…
I'll buy an ADATA one this morning… and light some candles into my computer… ;)

  • In BIOS , BBS Hard disk and CD /DVD and BBS Floppy (if present) check and DISABLE all EXCEPT the Hard disk targeted for your High Sierra installation and Save (F-10)
  • I just found your USB installer size is 32GB.
    • See if using an 8-16GB Flash disk (16GB preferred) will help.
Thank you,
I tried to disable everything to limit the problems, but of course, if it had worked, I would have re-enabled my SSD.
I also tried several flash drives before posting…
I'm going to re-sart from scratch this morning…

I did it this way… do you think it could be the reason?

Hey Slarrat,

I've tried pretty much every solution I could think of: multiple thumb drives, updating clover, installing and/or updating apfs.efi/hfsplus.efi and other drivers, unplugging every internal drive on my pc... I'm lost.

The only thing I can't do is to use the official installer download fully from the app store. I've already tried to download from 3 real macs. Wonder if Apple changed the installer for some reason...

I wonder why this is not happening to more people here, seems to be something completely independent from setup, IMO.

Hi Bruno,
I'm lost too… I think, but I may be wrong, that the installer is not in question; in this case, the partition would appear in clover manager?!?
Did you try on your x99?

Yes, I'm trying on my X99, folowing malki's awesome guide: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...-guide-100-working.240052/page-2#post-1651944

I have the same specs as his, and he didn't change any bios settings after loading optimised defaults, so I can't figure out what I'm getting wrong...

The BIOS setup image you have posted shows a BIOS Build date 02/14/2017.

I have re-uploaded that portion of your own image annotated to show the area showing your BIOS Version and date.

Unfortunately this post you had started has become an echo chamber to voice grievances rather than finding the cause of a problem. Others with different hardware including with initial incomplete macOS High Sierra Installer download have latched on to the same thread instead of starting their own new threads.

  • If you are genuinely interested to fix the problem, focus on your BIOS.
  • If you have already installed the latest BIOS, re-flash with the same bios to erase the possibly corrupted one.
  • Keep only the Target hard disk for High Sierra connected to the Motherboard during install to minimize problem during installation from devices from other SATA ports.
  • Disconnect all other USB devices except USB installer and Mouse and Keyboard.
  • Shoot images of the BIOS menu screen showing your chosen option for your own record and if needed to post to the Forum to get help.

Hey cmn699, I thought by sharing what I tried I could help eliminate variables. Didn't mean to grieve. Trying to figure it out here as well, ok? ;) Thanks for your help
