HighPoint RocketRaid 640L compatible or not?

Hi, roboman:
Can you install Mac OS X (10.10.x or 10.11.x) directly on the raid array of 640L?

By the way, your 640L is which one? Rocket 640L with marvell 88SE9230 chipset or RocketRAID 640L with marvell 88SE9235 chipset?

Its actually BOTH the Rocket 640L and the RocketRaid 640L...If you don't use RAID then it uses the Rocket 640L and if you do configure Raid then it uses the ROCKETRAID 640L...I did not realize this until I looked at the card itself and it reads Rocket 640L and RocketRaid 640L....Yes i was able to install OS X 10.10 directly onto two SSDs in Raid 0 which mean its using the RocketRaid 640L...

Just an update on these cards. They seem to work for light use, but heavy use (such as cloning one SSD to another, or video editing) causes unmounting of all drives connected to the controller as an intermittent problem. I've reported this to Highpoint. Light use does not show this issue. So, if you're using it for serious work, watch out. This seems to be an issue with the driver compatibility with Core Storage from 10.8 onward. Again, light use might not see it.

How light is light use? I am currently planning a build-out using:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/472951/Z270_ROG_MAXIMUS_IX_HERO_LGA_1151_ATX_Intel_Motherboard

It supports 6 SATA connections, I plan to use the M.2 port for the boot drive, then 1 SATA drive for a download/dump drive

I will have 5 ports open on the mb but I have 8 hard drive currently in a USB 3.0 case that I would like to migrate to internal.

I was thinking about adding the 640L to one of the 2 PCIe slots I have free on the mb to connect my final 3 drives inside the case. I use these drives as part of my Plex Server so it wouldnt be constant read/write but I am not sure if that would fall under "heavy use" as you described it.

I am very new to doing a hackintosh build out but was forced to resort to it after Apple ignored the Mac Mini for too many years. Any advice you can give would be so very welcome!!!
