[GUIDE] Sierra on the GA-Z170X-UD3

Hello everybody,
I am about to buy all the items for my first custom-built Hackintosh. I want to go for a GA-Z170X-UD3 and i7-6700k setup, but since I am not going to use any dedicated GPU, I was wondering what should I do differently from this guide in order to install everything with the HD 530 only. Also, is there any better (more compatible and allowing an easier install) motherboard for around 150£? Thanks in advice!

Hi,
I update to 10.12.4 through the Mac App Store and now don't work after the logo apple. Any idea?

Thank everyone here for this amazing guide. I followed this guide and have succeeded installing Sierra.

The only problems I have is no audio after sleep.
Also is the cpu power management required? My mac seems fine without doing it

ok I have some dumb questions and I'm not sure if I should post here or start a new thread but here goes

I have this board up and running no problem under Windows 10 - been stable for weeks - I run the F21 version of the BIOS.

I have an ASUS GTX660 (nvidia) video card that works under Windows as well. I flashed the bios on this card to a version that supports UEFI so I can disable CSM in the bios on the board.

Using the most recent version of UniBeast (7.1.1) I can boot from front USB and do a clean install of OSX. I chose 10.12.14. OSX loads and updates etc. using the ASUS GTX card no problem. I can run OSX as long as I boot from the UniBeast USB drive.

BUT when I run MultiBeast 9.0.1 to try and configure the internal drive I can't make the machine boot - OSX starts and then goes to a black screen.

Questions:

1 - could I copy the EFI partition from the USB drive to the internal drive to make the machine boot?

2 - does anyone know what UniBeast is doing differently than MultiBeast?

3 - if I could con someone who has a working setup with this board to zip / upload their EFI partition could I copy that and make it work that way?

4 - should I quit being a jerk and stop using MultiBeast and just follow the instructions? It seems like there have been some changes since the instructions were first released in 2016 that I'm finding confusing.

:)

thanks for your patience

See this thread (and others) about the black screen.

I am no expert, but UniBeast is basically making you your bootable USB drive, and MultiBeast is configuring your machine after install. The first steps of this guide basically replace UniBeast (making a bootable USB disk, copying Sierra installation to it). The next steps basically replace MultiBeast.

You can probably mix and match steps if you know what you're doing, but I would stick with either the vanilla installation guide (linked at top), or the GA-z170X guide in this thread.

3 - if I could con someone who has a working setup with this board to zip / upload their EFI partition could I copy that and make it work that way?

Check earlier pages in this same thread, as a couple of people did just that. I found those very useful, especially if you are willing to compare folder contents and config.plist changes, as that will tell you what is different, not just that it is different.

Yes, you should certainly try this. It may be intimidating because of the number of steps, but if you follow them carefully, you should have a successful start. From my reading, most people have to do some tweaking afterwards, in which case you start pounding the search box at the top and find someone else who encountered your same issue.

Quick question for folks on this board: any issues with the optical drive disappearing? I've had fairly persistent issues. Typically what I'll do is rip a movie from a DVD in the optical drive (a bluray-read, dvd-write capable drive connected via AHCI using ATAPI, bd-rom hl-dt-st bd-re UH10LS20 LG drive), the rip will finish, I'll right-click the drive on the desktop and select eject, and the disk will disappear but the drive bay won't open. After that, the OS doesn't even see the drive any more. If I force the drive bay open and put in a different disk nothing happens, the drive just dies. In fact I think it loses power. I seem to have to reboot. Sometimes when I reboot the drive will get power but disks won't mount. Time passing and reboots are the only resolution.

I followed the directions in this guide, so I didn't install any ahci_thirdparty sata whatever kexts.

Could it have anything to do with how the BIOS is set up with respect to UEFI/legacy? Frustrating issue. Thanks.

So I've pretty much got everything working that I need working with my 10.12.4 fresh install. Issues I still have are no audio over DP (after trying just about every hack I could find), sleep doesn't stay, and my monitor has a usb 3 hub built in but it shows up as usb 2. Oh and I have the same DVD/Blu-ray drive issue as user aol (post #373). I'm posting my config.plist file and if anyone would be gracious enough to take a peek to point out possible errors I would be most appreciative.

I'm no expert but stuff I see:
1. you are using the increase 15 port limit patch but you don't need it if you follow this guide and build a USB aml specifically for your board, which should solve your other USB issue
2. you have a MLB but you should remove it (RtVariables -> MLB), at least, I cleared mine because the idiot's guide to iMessage said to
3. you're using iMac17,1 so dual monitors will require AGDPFix
4. RehabMan says always use SystemParameters->InjectKexts->Detect but YMMV

I see no stuff for your GPU, nothing for intel iGPU and nothing for Nvidia. Your 1050 won't work without SystemParameters/NvidiaWeb /true.

I don't use audio over HDMI, if that's what you mean? I think the guide talks about audio over HDMI. I just use toledo's 10_12 scripts and get audio over the outputs on the back.

Sleep generally only works on recent hardware using Nvidia GPUs. I never got display sleep or system sleep to work with the built-in 530. With the 1060 it all works.

Thank you aol for looking my config.plist over and for the advice....I've disabled the 15 port limit but unfortunately that didn't fix sleep or recognizing my NEC's usb3 hub. Cleared out the MLB and iMessages still works (worked before) and I'm not using more than 1 monitor so I'm not concerned with using iMac17,1 unless that would also affect something else. My 1050 after installing the Nvidia web drivers and selecting them at boot has been properly recognized and except for audio is working perfectly however I did select web drivers in SystemParameters just to be safe.

While I don't need sleep or audio over HDMI/DP it would be nice to have them working...I may do a fresh install again just to see if I might have messed some things up since Multibeast isn't used at all in the guide and I did use it.

Thanks again for your help!
