Thank you for the response.
I did as you suggested with the kexts, booted from the USB and waited until after about 10 minutes of stalling on the gray screen when it eventually faded to black. It now does not react to mouse or keyboard.
Should I look into droptables?
update: I managed to wake it up to the gray again but still no luck with getting further.

From where did you download OS X?
On what hardware did you create your USB installer?

I downloaded it from my friend's MB Air and created the installer on my Mavericks hack install.
Anyway, I sorted this out. I had my friend re-download the El Cap installation file, copied it onto my external USB HD and created a USB stick installer once again.
Seems like a problem was on the .app file's part. After going through all the steps described in your guide, I now have a fully working 10.11 on my 4540s. Thank you!

Hi all,

I installed Sierra (10.12.3) on my EliteBook 820 G2 (with this guide) and I have a problem with my internal display.

The internal display stays disturbed :(
I can only fix this when plugging an external monitor and unplugging it again. Maybe boot glitch not working?

What's with the locking in terminal? No rhyme or reason why sometimes it locks, and sometimes it doesn't.
It always does it at the Atheros line though.
Any ways to skip past this?

What do you mean by "locking in terminal"?

Anyone use Karabiner Elements in Sierra?
It doesn't have effects after I tried to remap the keys. Then the default key for +/- volume and brightness were gone after I used that app.

Sorry RehabMan, I thought I uploaded all necessary files :(
