Buy or build desktop

I'm looking to build a high performance desktop capable of gaming, and was curious if it's better to build a PC or buying a ready desktop. If I go for a build I would like an i5 6400 and a gtx 970, is this possible? Recommandations for a build?

For a prebuilt desktop I was looking at a Dell Inspiron 3650, i5 6400 already in there, and I want to purchase a gtx 970

If you want it to also run OS X or the new MacOS, then I would recommend building your own using hardware that is able to work. Some of these pre-built models do not work well with OS X. The buyers guide has all the cool supported stuff:

New pre-built Dell desktops generally give you an underpowered low quality PSU. The one that comes with the 3650 may not even be powerful enough to support the use of a GTX 970. Better to choose your own components. You can't simply swap out their PSU for a standard ATX replacement. It won't fit and you'd also need to adapt the 24 pin power to 8 pin with an adapter.
