The Nitro, it works and has better cooling, and its overclocked! You'll get slightly better performance with the nitro. PowerCooler Red Devil, and XFX models also work.

Actually now as I look at it, I better off to go with XFX Radeon RX 480 XXX Edition 8GB for future proofing since it says it supports up to higher resolution than nitro (still not 5k tho...) - will that model work?

Also seems like Apple will go with AMD cards now so, that would be a good choice.

Confirmed: The new GPU that runs the Macbook is the RX460 which is a crap one.

Let's hope bootloader devs will fix the IGPU and sleep/wake issue.

What does that mean? The RX460 is from the same family of GPUs (RX460/470/480) I suppose. That would make the other models (470/480) an ideal component for a futureproof hackintosh, or not?

at this moment 470/480 have issues with hackintoshes. 460 is OOB with the kext modification

Because the card works on idle as a non supported card. Once the cards is supported the software requires it to be in "integrated graphics mode". Before it had support it worked on idle (lowest speed) once it gets acceleration it needs to be in ogpu mode.

sorry, according to this post - https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/enabling-amd-rx-4xx-cards-in-sierra.201364/ it will work with the kext modification OOB.

RX 460 doesn't need driver modifications, but it won't boot unless setting iGPU = Primary, thus loosing any pre-OS display output. Not too bad if OS X is the only system, but it's definitely annoying on dual-boot systems.

So if you have say a X99 system with no iGPU, you have to set everything to automatically boot (ie clover boot loader can only boot straight to OSX?)???

Actually, no. The card in the new MacBook Pro is the RP 460, not the RX 460.
