Direct Update to macOS Sierra using Clover

did as said. mac restarted, loading bar appeared. After loading (took a while) a grey screen appeared with the marble of doom :beachball: ... Then I waited some time, got fed up and shut the mac down (holding power button) ... My El Cap still works.

Any ideas?
I had the same results on my GA-P55A-UD3 with an Nvidia 9500 (old) graphics adapter. Tried all kinds of things, finally tried creating the USB installer and using that. Just finished the upgrade to Sierra, posting this on it. Lost my audio driver, so I'll have to reinstall that, but everything else seems to work. Update: installed the VoodooHDA 2.8.8 audio driver, and sound works again.

I've successfully installed sierra from el cap through app store. but I have no audio so I went to install the realtekALC.kext and Toledo's HDMI audio fix which worked on el cap but when i mount EFI with efimounter v3, the only files shown are - EFI / Apple / updaters / multi updaters / and a bunch of files but no other folders???

i tried installing the realtec with kextbeast thinking that may do it but still no sound??

any idea anyone??

cheers!

I'm pretty sure I managed to install Sierra but now every time I try to boot up after selecting it in clover, it just restarts after getting to this screen.

The Sierra recovery drive loads up fine through. Anyone else having this issue or a fix?

Work rig updated! It was very easy! =)

I successfully updated to Sierra on my home rig (x99). A few issues with the sound but it was my mistake. I didn't use it much but I had no "panics" or reboots so far.

Now I'll test on my work rig (x79)... =)

you have to restart otherwise when mounting it the first time It won't show all the folders. this happened to me too

What version of clover should we use with older systems? I'm running a P68 Sandybridge build an remember that newer version of clover won't work with older BIOS systems so well? I think?
I'm using the latest (r3763), just make sure to chose boot0ss bootloader

No matter what version the last 3 version of clover I use booting from my el capitan drive or usb I always end up with the spinning beachball and or just a gray screen. Any help of suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I use an Nvidia card Geforce 600 and 900 whichworkss with el capitan.

Did not work for me. I had a message during install of upgrade " can't install from null ".
When it rebooted back into clover I had no "boot macOS install" option.

So I had to boot back into El Capitan.

I had the same thing. I tried a second time and for some reason it worked. Instead of "null" it showed the right Volume name the second time. I would say if you're seeing "null" you may as well run it again because it probably won't work.

I was having the grey screen and LONG timeout period at first. I manually copied the FakeSMC stuff from /Library/Extensions into the EFI location specified, and I tried the Inject Kext checkbox (not in the instructions I followed), and then it all worked to completion.

I solved all my sound issues with my Hack by getting a cheapo USB audio adapter. That has "just worked" ever since I got it. Sound has been the only real issue I have had since before Mavericks.
