Radeon Compatibility Guide - ATI/AMD Graphics Cards

Ive got a funny feeling it wouldn't work anyway. I don't think you'd get any screen output with a Mac Pro card in a hackintosh only way to get it working is to flash the BIOS but that can be brutal if it goes wrong. I do know that some ATI Radeon cards have a switch which can switch between EFI and PC but those cards are tricky to find.

A genuine Mac card does work in a CustoMac/Hackintosh.

Im guessing only when OS X boots up? You'd get BIOS screen?

It works great in Windows 10 no issues at all. I just can't get it to boot into OS X it hangs on the OS X loading screen. I did try both switch 1 and 2 same thing happens. Works fine in the ASUS bios and I can see the Clover bootloader and the mac start up screen with the apple then it hangs on going into OS X.

I'm not sure why the 6870 works perfect when the 7950 hangs on the OS X load screen. The 7950 works fine for the initial OS X installation process but then on reboot it doesn't so I had to use the iGPU to complete the install. I didnt want to fuss about it too much but I guess i'll see if I can move the 7950 earlier then I originally planned.

The VBIOS portion of a Mac GPU equals a PC GPU, only difference is the EFI part (EFI 1.1 UGA Driver vs. UEFI 2.0 GOP driver).
Actually my R9 280 is Mac flashed because I also use it in my MacPro. If the UEFI doesn't like the Mac EFI part, the CSM will do it.

Obviously there's no reason to use a Mac card in a Customac, but it shouldn't hurt either.

For those who are having intermittent screen flashing with AMD cards, i found keeping the integrated graphics enabled and they ceased. This is with a Asus r9 270x Asus r9 270x direct ii

Just bought a PowerColor R9 270. It works (QE/CI), I'm a happy camper. Using single monitor with HDMI.

Anyone knows if I can change the DevID on the VBIOS instead of adding it to the kexts?
If that works it would truly be OOB instead of having to edit kexts with each OS X updates.

When its like this easy explained it'll be very much user friendly, actually it is the magic we all are looking for:clap: ..I don't like those kinda guides which needs another guide to understand them :banghead:

Balancing between geek modification and easy explaining is what should any geek/moderator do, or at least need to understand how much important is.

So thank you very much as I'm planning to try Hackintosh with AMD GPU in near future.

Having browsed through this enormous thread - does any card work OOB with El Capitan or is patching always necessary?

In the first page of the thread there are the cards that work out of the box !

The most recent are the R9 280X from Gigabyte, the one I have, and works Just fine OOB without any tweak or edit .

The only issue are the sleep problem, witch are in the first page too .

I have another Hack with an HD6670, that also works OOB, but are not in the first page .
