Hello. Recently I have installed Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11.3 on my old Acer Aspire 5755g. But I can not find proper kexts for my audio and wi-fi. Also batttery indicator doesn't work, i can't change brightness of the display and I wish that USB 3.0 would work. If you had the same problems and successfully solved them, please help.
Audio - Realtek ALC269
WLAN - Atheros HB95 (not sure)
Thank you,
Oleh

Hi
Please read all the posts in this thread - upgrades do break a few things, but you just have to re-install the kexts. Usb 3 is specifically mentioned later in the thread. Take your time and you will be sorted.

Hi M1D1MAN,

Did you ever get your mic working? Is it something fixable with a DSDT edit?

Looking around here and there it seems to be fixable with a certain VoodooHDA kext. Although, it probably would override our sound. I experiment with it later today.

Thanks!

Hi sbeaber4

VoodooHDA kext was a good way forward for a number of years, but since Yosemite the various kexts 'seems' to cause microphone feedback - and activates on full volume when the kext is applied (picking up the speaker volume)....it freaks you out when you hear it for the first time! (but i i hear someone saying, well make sure you plug headphones in.. Nuff Said!).

I know some people use the microphone jack, and it works; albeit with small distortion. (the onboard mic doesn't see anything, but the microphone jack does).

I am all round the country at the moment, but will be able to look at this in more detail upon my return. As I stated in my blog earlier, I use an external sound card, as this reduces not only the CPU load/latency but also keeps my system running cooler.

Oh! Note on running cooler. I have cleaned the CPU/GPU and re-applied Thermal Compound, where applicable, and have seen a 8 degree decrease overall...hopefully it will keep this ol' beast a'goin' a bit longer :)

Here is the link to the aspire 5755G Service manaual. There are also links on you tube as well for taking apart this laptop:

Enjoy!

Hi sbeaber4

Reference the sound, find attached archive which i have managed to get sound/internal mic working for. You will need pacifist to do a manual install of the voodoo prefpane.(see attachedscreen print)

1. Install voodoo.kext first, re-boot and turn your sound down straight away. or you will get feedback!
2. Then open VoodooHDA-v2.8.8.pkg in Pacifist (see attached pic) and install highlighted files to default location.
3. Ensure that the VoodooHdaSettingsLoader app is placed in the Login Items (System Preferences/UserGroups).See Pic
4. Re-Boot Computer.
5. Open Voodoo preference Pane (New Speaker Icon at bottom of screen) in System Preferences and turn down the Gain and you will be fully installed with Sound and Mic working.

Any problems just get back...

Great stuff, man. Thanks a lot. I'll give this a shot.

Guys, I was one of the guys way back (did a bunch with Thomas in the starts and jumped to clover before many on this product) so I have experience way back, even chatted with Akbar during the bios days but can't get in touch with him. My main question is I am taking the leap to get this box going again (for my kids now) and have some issues. I have been very ill and recovering from some serious illness and lost some memory and other issues with the mind during it all so please be easy with me ;)

I am going to attempt to get this all going these next few days, but something is scaring me now as I have heard of many people whose 5750gs are dying now and they are realizing the fan control doesn't work on the 1.21 akbar bios. Does this also have issues in OSX ? Is it just the windows guys? Regardless, do you guys see a problem with me using 1.20 as I think it doesn't have the fan issues.

Much appreciated,
TVO
