Clover - Dual Boot - Yosemite UEFI - Win7 Legacy - Questions

No selection (entry) within Clover actually boots Windows. The only way to boot windows currently is through BIOS Boot Menu..

How many Windows icons do you see at the Clover selection screen?
On an Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe with Clover 3270 EFI booting Yosemite 10.10.5 and Windows 7 installed Legacy mode my selections at the Clover screen are:
Boot Clover from EFI
Boot Windows from Legacy HD1 \\This is the system reserved partition\\
Boot Windows from Legacy HD2 \\This is the NTFS partition - Windows C:\ \\
Boot Mac OS X From Yosemite
Boot Recovery from Recovery

config.plist has Boot -> Legacy = PBR

Making this change in Clover Configurator:

gets me icons at the Clover selection screen of:
Boot Mac OS X From Yosemite
Boot Recovery from Recovery
Boot Clover from EFI
Boot System Reserved from Legacy HD1 \\This is the system reserved partition\\
Boot Windows from Legacy HD2 \\This is the NTFS partition - Windows C:\ \\

Selecting System Reserved boots Win7.
Note that the Volume name must be what appears on the Clover selection screen when you boot, not what appears in terminal when you use diskutil list.

Do you have your BIOS set for UEFI and Legacy or UEFI only?

I have 2 (two) Windows Icons

  • Boot Windows from Legacy HD1
  • Boot Windows from Legacy HD2

Neither of them will allow me to boot Windows. Its been a while since I tried last and I cannot remember what I am 'presented' with. If memory serves me correctly I believe I get a blinking/rotating - (dash) but no boot. IDK, Ill try again today to be sure. Gotta wait till he wakes up

I will also double check the that BIOS is set for UEFI and Legacy. Maybe this is what Im overlooking.

So, Legacy HD1 is the option that should theoretically boot to Win7?

And I know that my config.plist is - Boot > Legacy: LegacyBiosDefault.. So I want to change that to PBR?

Thanks for the help, I was hoping you would see this

UPDATE**

BIOS is set for "UEFI and Legacy"

config.plist is - Boot > Legacy: PBR

  • Legacy HD1 - Black screen, flashing (dash -) upper left corner
  • Legacy HD2 - Black screen, flashing (dash -) upper left corner

config.plist is - Boot > Legacy: PBRtest
  • Legacy HD1 - Instant Reboot
  • Legacy HD2 - Instant Reboot

config.plist is - Boot > Legacy: LegacyBiosDefault
  • Legacy HD1 - Black screen, flashing (dash -) upper left corner
  • Legacy HD2 - Black screen, flashing (dash -) upper left corner

I could never get Clover to boot Windows legacy through the PBR (which would be on System Reserved).
Legacy booting is a PITA and so 1980s.

Where do I go from here? He doesn't want; it touched/transitioned to UEFI or reinstall as UEFI... But here is the kicker, he wants it booting from Clover  :banghead: Well no $%&@ kid, WTH do you think Im trying to do?

Any further thoughts/ideas?

Try older Clover. I've seen reports that newer versions are broken with regard to legacy boot. Have not researched, as I'm not using legacy at all here... You will need relatively new Clover for 10.11, of course. Kind of a "rock, meet hard place" thing.

Recommendation: Transition Windows to UEFI.

Before going any farther with this would you mind posting the hardware of this build you are having problems with?

In UEFI under BIOS Features tab do you have CSM set to Disabled, Enabled or Auto?
Should be set to Auto for dual EFI-Legacy booting.

I will check when he leaves for school and get back to you

Worth a shot, but probably not the issue, since if CSM wasn't enabled, booting from BIOS to Win7 would not be possible.
