Audio MIDI Setup is analog only, Encoded Digital Audio ignores any MIDI setting.
All audio devices have sound.
Post to Surround Sound Realtek ALC AppleHDA.

I can do the action of turning sound up and down, so the system is recognizing a plug, but I hear no sounds ever.

Not correct. The only pin detection is front panel, green and pink. Volume slider moves with or without any thing plugged.
Do "Headphones" appear when headphones are plugged into front panel green?
What does System Preferences/Sound/Output do?

No headphones appear. If I select my blackmagic audio device, (a professional video export card), video starts to play and it looks like everything is working. But if I select either line out or headphone port on my ALC1150 nothing works.

I'm using only the rear green audio port with headphones. For devices I have selected all on the screen. Interesting thing to note, sound will not play at all when selecting any ALC1150 device, but audio will "play" (as in time coffee will advance, no way to test actual sound) with my black magic device.

With internal speakers, or any other audio option, video and audio will not play at all (time code will not advance.)
