Hi folks,

Here is my issue: no matter what USB port is. Whatever I connect in any USB port (2.0 & 3.0) causes an absolute freeze. If I'm listening music in iTunes and plug in a pen drive, the music simply stops. If I just turn on the printer (which is obviously plugged in), got freeze. After that, the only option I have is push the Reset button. Please, some help.

My specs:

GA-Z77X-UD5H
i7-3770K
AMD R9 280X graphic card
OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD

+1 Almost the same thing has been happening to me except it only happens if I plug in USB storage devices (like my Galaxy), it's been happening to me ever since the 10.9.1 update :banghead:

mines happening on 10.9.2 as well and with -x boot flag it doesn't seem to be occurring...

I have the exact same problem. Oddly, it only happens the second time I plug in the USB device (e.g. plug in, pull out, plug in = freeze/crash). I tried repairing the disk permissions, which I thought fixed the issue, until I rebooted again. Repairing again doesn't help, so that probably wasn't the issue.

I also tried messing around with the bios XHCI options and such, but I don't honestly know what those do. I should note that this happens with my mouse and keyboard too, and not just my flash drive.

I tried the MultiBeast USB 3.0 Universal driver, which didn't help. I also tried the lacie USB driver, to no avail.

Here is my setup:

Mavericks 10.9.2
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600 MHz (two 8GB dims)
Intel i7 4770k
Asus GTX 760

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it doesn't happen with the -x boot flag (but the flash drive doesn't mount, either)

EDIT 2: Umm.. I just did some more testing, and found that it doesn't crash in verbose mode. I tested it about 5 times. Every time I boot normally, I get the USB freeze. If I verbose boot, there is no issue. I really don't understand that, but maybe that'll help somebody figure out the problem.

I have the GA-H87n, do you think it will work?

What is this driver for?

Do you deleted other kexts before you installed this?

Why is a realtek kext solving an usb issue? :D

Sorry for this many questions, but i woulf be happy if you could answer them...

Thanks in advance :)
