I had the same problem, the Atheros WiFi/BT module wouldnt work on 10.7.0, but the bluetooth started working after upgrading to 10.7.4. The Wifi still doesnt work though - are you using any additional kexts or just the ProBook installer?

I dont think distance is an issue, because the wifi card never gets enabled. Only the Bluetooth works at this point, which is weird since its the same module. Do you think that a defective unit can cause it to be rejected by BIOS?

Where did you find the sleepenabler kext? Was it specifically designed for 10.6.8? Try entering -x flag, hopefully that will let you access your SL so you can delete the kext.
