My first computer was a Sanyo MBC-555 that I bought in late 1983.

It was an IBM "compatible" with 128K RAM, two 160K floppy drives, a green-screen monitor, an underclocked Intel 3.6MHz 8088 CPU (IBM's was clocked at 4.77MHz), and a solid, but unusual keyboard. It sold for under $1000.

The reason I bought it was that it was affordable and was bundled with an excellent MicroPro software bundle, in particular WordStar 3.3. I used it to write my doctoral dissertation.

I later upgraded it to 256K RAM, two 320K floppy drives, and a RGB color monitor. I still have it and it still runs. :)

First two my Dad brought home from work: A Rockwell AIM 65, then a Tektronix 4051 graphics terminal with storage tube display.

The Sinclair ZX81 was purchased as a kit we had to solder together. The university I attended encouraged students to buy a Mac, and I bought an SE/30. A few years later, I got into NeXT programming, and found an amazing deal for a used NeXT Cube. A few years after that, after college, I bought a NeXTStation mono (with greyscale screen).
