Hello all I am surprized in the buyer s guide there is nothing about a xeon E5 based system wich is actually the original mac pro processor; I would like to build such a power machine-( GA-X99P-SLI / E5 2697 V3 / 128 go ram / 4 ssd raid 8to ) but finding no advice or guide, I m afraid to go for it. Has anyone ever experienced such a buid ? cheers

Because there hasn't been an update to the Mac Pro in three (3) years, and the Late 2013 is using the Intel X79 chipset, you're probably not going to find many members on this forum who are willing to buy an E5-2697v3 for $2,700.00+ USD to test whether or not they can get it working on an X99 chipset motherboard.

However, there are several builds with the X99 chipset that use Intel's High End Core i7 CPUs (e.g. 5930K, 6850K) that users have documented.

Here's a successful build of an i7-5820K (6-Core) - https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...itan-10-11-2-clover-guide-100-working.183441/

Here's a successful build of an i7-6950X (10-Core) - https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/giacomoleopardos-workstation-triplet.199643/

If you search on Intel X99 or i7 6950X, you'll get some hits that should lead you in the right direction. That being said, an X99 build may be more difficult than a Z170 build because Apple doesn't currently sell any computer with the X99 chipset. Hopefully, Apple will update the Mac Pro this Thursday (10/27), with Broadwell-EP Xeons (E5v4 CPUs) and then that has the potential of making Hackintoshes using the X99 chipset easier to build for the rest of us.

If you're determined to get a Xeon with 12 Cores working, then GiacomoLeopardos Workstation Triplet build is probably a good place to get started.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Z digital this helps a lot .
actually I though of xeon because you can find them at 650$ (used 2697-v4) the i7 6950 being still expensive.
And the xeon seems to offer better scores (i am doing music and i need cores , frequency and ram)
so i might keep digging in that direction # GA-X99P-SLI / E5 2697 V4/128 ram
