Hi All,

I have the following build:

GA-H55N-USB3 with XFX HD 5770.

I have got everything running perfect including audio from spdif. The system profiler recognises that I have an 5770 with graphic enabler = No.

When using XBMC, standard def 2.1 video files work. However when trying to use 720 or 1080 files with 5.1 it crashes. Plex crashes as well. I dont have a clue where to begin to be honest. When I go to audio midi set up, it only states I have 2 channels out and can only configure the speakers as stereo. Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Two different issues:
1. HD Video - it sounds like your 5770 is not properly enabled. What framebuffer is loading? To find the framebuffer: Terminal, type ioreg | grep ATY . It is usually Vervet.
2. 5.1 Audio - unfortunately, encoded digital audio is not supported with the ALC892 over optical in OS X. Recommend HDMI audio, requires dsdt edits.

Maverics 1.9.4
ATI 5770
P5B Premium mobo

Sorry for reviving such an old thread but i am having a similar problem (and with the same GPU, ati 5770).
All online videos play fine on 320p but from 480p and above all i see is a grey screen during playback.
Sound if fine...playback is crap. I didnt do anything fancy with my graphics drivers....Multibeast did everything after i installed the OS.
The HD movies i have on my disk work fine....only online videos act this way.

My ioreg | grep ATY

HTML:
    | | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@0 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000002f0, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (6 ms), retain 8>
    | | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class AMDFramebuffer, id 0x1000002f3, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (4 ms), retain 18>

    | | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class AMDFramebuffer, id 0x1000002ff, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (0 ms), retain 15>

and from my XBMC log when the video starts playing:
