Snooping around the forum for a while, getting envious of all these powerful hackintoshs got to me! I have a Mid 2011 MacBook Air which generally kept up with my tasks but struggled with 1100 page PDF files. The fans began to drive me crazy as the machine struggled with annotation of such large files. I also wanted to begin playing some games in my downtime, which the MacBook air couldn't do. The games I play are sports, and Simcity style games.

Hackintosh stability was my primary concern and to achieve as native as possible to the real deal. A very important concern for me is quietness of the build. Wanting to study in silence, the machine had to be near silent hence my sadly expensive, but reputable silent choice of components. The 3770k was chosen for longevity and overclocking will begin when required or when I have time to play with it. The motherboard had to have a thunderbolt port for future devices for my MacBook air and desktop. I may also buy a 27inch Cinema Display when the time is right so having the option there is a piece of mind. Furthermore, the motherboard has been proven to be the easiest, and most stable motherboards around.

Nerves initially got the better of me as I have never put together a PC before, nor delved in any form of computer install related stuff, but i figured if many people can do it, why cant I, so I began with thanks to the hackintosh community and following these threads closely:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...nderbolt-updated-10-8-2-multibeast-5-2-a.html

Procedure:

Before beginning, get onto a real mac with a 8GB USB stick and follow this link and stop once you hit STEP 3
http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html.

Then turn on your hackintosh

1. Set the following BIOS from this thread:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/articles/...gigabytes-7-series-lga-1155-motherboards.html

NOTE: I DISABLED CPU PLL VOLTAGE (explain later)

2. Install UniBeast - From step 3
http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

3. Installation was a breeze and I selected the recommended MB settings for Ivy.
( I also selected GraphicsEnabler=No, TRIM 10.8.3, and iMac 13.2 Def)

57876-screenshot4.jpg

4. Reboot and enjoy!

Additional steps I did for more native functionality and more Geekbench power.

* I followed Dawsmans suggestion and put a MacPro 5.1 Def which required deleting the the AppleTyMCEDriver.kext. Otherwise you will get a kernel panic.
Geekbench went from 13,300 to nearly 15,000

* I also over clocked my RAM to 1800 in BIOS. About this Mac properly reflects the change (Initially, you may have to go into BIOS anyway to change the RAM settings as mine initially showed 1333MHz in BIOS and OSX.

Bluetooth
I wanted a native as possible experience for my input devices with no headaches. I followed this guide and created a Native Apple Bluetooth USB kit. Ignore my last post in that thread as I solved the problem.

http://www.tonymacx86.com/customiza...ed-bluetooth-module-usb-hub-solved-sleep.html

I then attached it to a USB port it liked, which were many. I ultimately sticky taped it to the back of my 20 Inch Cinema Display and the USB port there. Its also so close to the input devices, theres no issue on lag or reception.

57877-screenshot3.jpg

I also set Darkwake=no

After some
experimenting, forced sleep now works perfectly (thanks to the CPU over voltage being disabled in BIOS) and natural sleep now works too with any keyboard tap awakening the OSX.

Please note, Darkwake is default to 0, and changing it to 10 did not work for me. Darkwake=8 worked, but if I hit a character on the keyboard to waken the machine, that character would then be displayed in my login password screen. With setting it to 'no', regardless of what key I hit, the login is empty when it appears, ready for me to put in the password. wake is instant, with no lag whatsoever. Just like a native build. Bear in mind it does take OSX 2 minutes longer to sleep than the display in auto sleep mode. Be patient.

My only issue is I CANNOT activate bluetooth control during BIOS or during the bootloader. Any help appreciated.

Random stuff

* NOW USING GTX 780 EVGA CLASSIFIED* same setup as Previous Zotac

My 24 Inch Cinema Display is directly attached to the GTX 660 through a mini-display to display port adapter with no isses. Keyboard settings, volume, brightness etc all work fine with the screen.
The 24inch Screen plus 2x 20 inch screens are all connected. 20inch screens are running off the dual DVI ports no problem. ( I was just waiting on a DVI extension cable) and the 24inch is running through the Display port in the GTX 660)

The following picture shows one 20inch Cinema Display. Im guessing its because the other is connected through the j5 USB adapter. 3 monitors now show up as I finally connected the third monitor directly into GPU via a DVI cable.

The Bowers and Wilkins overtake any sound card control off the UP5TH and use its own sound card in its speakers allowing for clarity, and rich, powerful sound.
The speakers simply dock into any USB port. I have it connected to the back of one 20 inch Screen. Control and recognition is fine through the sound settings and system profiler.

I also have a 120 GB Samsung SSD spare which I havent installed yet, that will be my Windows Drive.
The other 250GB and 128 Pro SSD's are installed and functioning. The 128 Pro is my OSX system drive and the 250 GB is Storage/Media etc..

I edited the Bootloader screen with this theme
http://forum.voodooprojects.org/ind...ml?PHPSESSID=upurp77sh6prfc9t2dlfmcv0kmtv3e91

I havent tried ethernet yet, as Im using WIFI which works flawlessly.

Thats all I can think of now.
If anyone can help me on my bluetooth issue, it'll be much appreciated. Any questions or suggestions please post!

Wolfies Be Quiet! Mac Pro Build: Z77XUP5 - 3770K - 16 RAM - 2x Samsung SSD - Zotac GTX 660 - BeQuiet 750Watt - OSX 10.8.3

On the Hackintosh in OS X shift+control+4, you;ll see a crosshair, pick the area you want to use and it saves to the desktop. Use Preview to crop and clean it! Great post, thanks for the info.

I used a Behringer USB sound adapter but the lack of keyboard sound control drove me crazy. Unfortunately the output of the GA 77 UP5 is kinda/sorta stereo but its good enough. Feeds to a Dayton Audio APA150 watt power amp and then to my 35 year old Dahlquist DQ-10's which i lovingly refer to as my headphones (30 inches square!).

Does the Zotac 660 give you video issues?

So,... how quiet is it? 3x140mm must produce an amazing airflow.
Have you connected all the fans to one PWM splitter?

Thanks for the tip.
Using the standard audio that pumps through the 24 inch Cinema Display seems normal. No dramas, but when I turn on the B&W MM-1 the inbuilt soundcard of the speakers take over and basically takes everything to another level!

No issues at all with the Zotac, Did you?

No idea on airflow, have never built a PC before so dont know what to expect.
The sound is pretty bloody quiet on all system parts.
The loudest compnent is the Zotac, and thats apparently quiet by GPU standards.

I have all the fans connected to the rear of the Be Quiet PSU which regulates and controls speed depending on temps. It takes 4 fan slots. Im sure it might be better to use the MOBO but this allowed a clean internal look, and as a first time builder, was a easy convenient option.

LOL! With the Fractal R4 case, if you hear anything, then something is loud in the case, and you might want to check into what's causing the sound.

Well to be honest, Im a real sucker for noise and its a bit louder than I expected. Having said that, I am coming from a Macbook Air and it is much weaker. More power= More Noise.

The Be Quiet gear in there is silent. The Zotac spins at 1590rpm according to iStat. Its pretty good, but as the PC is on the floor, I cant hear a thing unless I put my ear to the case.

I just cant believe how stable the whole thing is in general!
