will Monterey install work on Dell Optiplex 3010 or 3040 , 3010 has intel i5 3550 3.3ghz, 3040 has i5 6500.

I get just red script when trying to just update. maybe graphics ? maybe I should just stick with Catalina.

Try the 3040/i5-6500 with Monterey. It is natively supported and should work. Keep the 3010 on Catalina if that is already working.
