Wifi not working

Finally read what I thought was enough to get the job done but, everything works except the wifi. I have:
4530s i3 2310m
4gb memory
10.7.3 lion
atheros 9285 wireless

I can turn the wifi on and off according to the lights, when I push the wireless button something pops up on the screen that looks like a brightness symbol and the bars go up and down while I push the button. Did I do something wrong ? If so can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Thanks just got it going by adding a new location in network settings all is well. Thanks everyone for your easy guides.

Ok everything works great until I unplug the power cord, then the wifi drops and doesn't work right. With the power cord in works great.
