Check the channel that your router is operating on for it's 5GHz network. Make it match to one of the channels available for the wireless card and 5GHz will work. I had a similar problem with a Netgear router. All I had to do was change the operating channel.

this worked for me, thanks.
i got a card from new egg but it would only connect on 2.4ghz (as a Bluetooth WAN, even). i had a Time Capsule with dual band and set it to channel 36, and everything was great.
