We've all heard that it began in the mid 1970s with the Altair 8800 and then the Apple I. That Steve Jobs made a field trip to Xerox PARC and came up with the idea of including a GUI and mouse with the original Macintosh. Well it really goes back about 7-8 years before the Apple I even went up for sale. At the time, Jobs and Wozniak were still High School students.

Douglas Engelbart invented the first mouse back in 1964 while working at the Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park.
On December 9th 1968 in San Francisco, Engelbart demonstrated using a mouse, wysiwyg editing and did one of the first ever power point presentations. You can read about this on the Wired website. Have fun !

I had an Altair 8800 with an 8080 back in the day. I wire wrapped processor board. Looking back at that memory it was a painful experience. I gave up on "homebrew" after that.

Cool information! :)
